Dynamic Power Consumption simulation in CCS

Hi,

I need to do Benchmarking for different TI processors with a simple algorithm like FIR filter. I need to see the Dynamic power Consumption by different CPUs and avg Energy/ Power consumed.

I heard that CCS has some thing for C5510 called Power analyser to do such things. I need to know just on simulator without any actual hardware can CCS give me Dynamic Power Consumption? I need to do it for C5000 and C6000 series DSPs

Thanks,

Chaitanya

  • Chaitanya,

I recall that older versions of CCS had a plug-in that performed power analysis in DSP devices, and this document talks about one available in CCSv2.21 - is that what you mean?

If so, this plug-in was not ported to newer versions of CCS (namely v4 and v5).

I also could not find anything available in the simulators for the DSP families you mentioned. Sorry.

    Regards,

    Rafael

  • Hi Rafael,

    Thanks for your quick reply.

Yes this document describes the method, however it looks like they are using some hardware and DSO to measure the power along with CCS.

Yes I have CCS V5 and it is unfortunate that they have not added this plugin on to it. In general for this processor is there any thumb rule method excel sheet is available to calculate power?

I am using C55xx Rev 3.0 Accurate Cycle Simulator and C64+ I wonder why you could not find any simulators on your CCS for these processors?

I am also not getting the clock cycles for some standard code accurately as I am just enabling the Clock Enable and Putting a Break Points in Accurate Cycle simulators, they are giving bigger clock cycles than anticipated

    Please give your expert suggetions.

    Regards,

    Chaitanya
