CCS v5.2 Resource Explorer link issues

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CONTROLSUITE, MSP430WARE, CCSTUDIO

Whenever the Resource Explorer opens, I get the error message:

"Cannot find 'file:///D://ti/.CCSResourceExplorer/8f04b836/.CCSWelcome/welcome.html'. Make sure the path or Internet address is correct"

This path is actually correct as I can find the file.  Why isn't CCS finding it?  I don't know where you can specify what the path is though. Also, I don't know why it gets placed in my D:/ drive (My Documents is on D:/)

Also, I checked the box to install MSP430ware but it does not show up in the Resource Explorer either.  controlSUITE does.  Other than this, CCS seems to work fine, but this is very annoying because many of the tutorials refer to all the useful information in MSP430ware.  I tried the standalone download, but CCS still doesn't find it, and it doesn't make much sense to navigate the info without CCS.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling CCS (version 5.2.1.00018) multiple times.  I installed CCS in the default C:\TI folder.  bios_5-41-13_42, ccsv5, controlSUITE, grace_1_10_04_36, and xdctools_3_23_03_53 are found in this folder.  I tried clearing out "C:\Program Files (x86)\InstallJammer Registry" folder after uninstall, and running the installer "As Administrator" as other forums, wiki troubleshooting page suggested to no avail. I am running Windows 7 64bit

How can I get the Resource Explorer and MSP430ware to work properly in CCSv5.2?

  • Hi Joris,

    some things to check/further questions

    - what exact CCS version are you using?

    - did you update MSPWare?  How did you install it?  In the case of some versions, we have seen a couple upgrade issues.

    - have you checked for antivirus interference?

    - have you checked permissions/proxy settings?

    Please keep us informed.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Hi Joris,

I am guessing that this error is due to your system configuration, where the user's home directory is configured to a non-default location.

Can you try to add this line to the bottom of ccstudio.ini file, restart CCS and see if this help to workaround the issue that you have?

    -Duser.home=c:/mytempdir

    Regards,
    Patrick

  • Thanks Patrick! That fixed the welcome screen issue.

However, MSP430ware still doesn't show up correctly.  To get the MSP430ware to show up, I tried the:

"Configure Resource Explorer to discover examples, documentation and generates a resource package"

link on the TI Resource Explorer home screen and directed it to "C:\TI\msp430", but what shows up does not match the "intuitive GUI" that is supposed to show up...instead it just looks like a directory structure of my "C:\TI\msp430" folder

  • HI Joris,

    to continue on the MSP430Ware,

    - how did you originally install it?  Was it ever appearing correctly?

    - did you attempt any updates for it?

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • I think I originally installed the MSP430ware standalone package, then removed it and tried reinstalling CCS with the checkbox for MSP430ware checked.  I don't think it ever appeared correctly.

I just ran the updater.  It updated MSP430ware but I still don't see it in the Resource explorer.

  • HI Joris,

ok ... before I have to start suggesting uninstalling/reinstalling etc.

If you open Resource Explorer, are you able to add MSP430Ware by scrolling down to the "Configure Resouce Explorer to discover installed examples and documentation" and using those options?  The second option is a rescan, the top option should make a dialogue box pop up where you can select "add".

    Please keep us informed.

    Best REgards,

    Lisa

  • Hi Joris,

Configure resource explorer option is only meant for software packages that do not have necessary integration files available. As you noticed, this option simply scans the directory and its subdirectories for project files and duplicates file system structure to expose those projects in resource explorer. MSP430ware has necessary integration files shipped with it, which provide the layout and ease of use structure that you were most likely expecting. The bit that is missing is the linkage between MSP430ware and resource explorer. This linkage is a file that normally exists in UserHomeDir\ti\CCSExternalReferences, it should be called something like msp430ware_version. In your scenario it seems that java virtual machine thinks that your home directory is drive D:. I am not sure what is different about your windows configuration for this to be triggered. However, one thing you could try is to copy UserHomeDirectory\ti\CCSExternalReferences directory to the tempdir directory that Patrick (patch) suggested to see if that will discover MSP430ware. You may need to remove that extra path that you added first.

Also, could you let us know what you Desktop shortcut path is configured to? Open win exploerer, right click on Desktop icon and choose properties. Please let us know what Target text box is configured to.

    Thanks,

    Martin

  • Thanks Martin! That does it.

My Desktop shortcut path is "D:\Desktop"

The necessary integration file (msp430ware_1_25_00_29) was found in "C:\Users\MyUserName\ti\CCSExternalReferences".  I simply copied the CCSExternalReferences folder over to the tempdir directory that Patrick described.

  • Thanks Martin!   Joris, glad to hear it is resolved for you, all the best with development.

    Best Regards,

    Lisa
