CCS5 download/install problems

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CCSTUDIO

I've downloaded the ccs_setup_5.2.1.00018.exe file from the TI site. It shows as 1,979 KB in my directory. When I run it, after selecting the various options, a window pops up that says:  "Unable to access http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/sdo_ccstudio/CCSv5/CCS5.2.1.00018_win32 Check your settings and try again."

What am I doing wrong?

I had hoped to down load CCS5 and upgrade from CCS4.

Thanks

  • Hi David,

thanks,  I have flagged this and will dig into it.  Hopefully this is only a temporary server item.  We will keep you informed.  You are one of a few experiencing this at the moment.

  • Hi Lisa,

Since you've flagged this, I presume that you may be the one to address some other issues to as well. I start this by saying that the TI licensing method has been a problem for me ever since I started working with the Stellaris line over two years ago. If it weren't for the fact that I feel that the TI product line was so great, I'd look for alternatives!

Having said that, the problem that lead me to this post is that I tried various methods of downloading the latest CCS5 and they all lead to that message. Late last night, I went to another computer that had a succesful install of CCS5.1.1.00031_win32 and zipped up the install files (not the installed files) and brought them over to this one. The install seemed to go OK, but it would not recognize the host ID in the license file. This is the PC that I used to originally register the license and the MAC address has not changed! I downloaded the license file again, but got the same result.

Then on both machines, I tried the upgrade process. On both the upgrade hung. The only thing I can say is that I got:

    com.ti.cgt.msp430.4.1.win32.feature.group...installation failed

and it looped at that point merely saying "installation failed". I had to reset the machine to kill the process.

To put it simply, How can I get rid of any cruft and get a clean install? After that, how can I get it to recognize my license? This is quickly becoming a critical issue as I am not able to continue softeare development!

The system is WinXP fully upgraded. If you need any more info, please ask.

    Thanks

  • Hi David,

first of all, sorry your CCS experience has not been stellar and thanks for the feedback.  First, lets try to get you a clean installation.   I have verified the errors you have experienced are due to a server migration which, last I checked, it is not complete.  So once that is done I will let you know and you can download the installer/or at least try it again.

Usually in order to uninstall CCS we simply manually delete the folders/installation tree.

Once we do this, we can make sure the license is good.  Do you know if it is a v4 license you have?

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Hi Lisa,

This is another area where I'm a little confused. When I go to MyRegisteredSoftware, I see two entries of interest:

CCSTUDIO TMDSCCS-ALLN01D-v5  - active no expiration date, shows correct MAC address.

    and

CCSSUB TMDSCCSSUB-ALLN01D-W - active expires in 23 days.

When the new version CCS5 comes up, it looks like the host ID they refer to is for my hard disk and not the MAC address. Another area where I'm confused. How can I change that.

Again, if you need more info, just let me know.

  • Hi David,

it looks like the server is still being swapped over.

Regardless, regarding the license.   The MAC address required is the eth0 one, the main hardware MAC address for the pc.   In the myregistered software where you were I believe you should be able to do two things

    - you are allowed on rehost/ie change or correction to the MAC address

    - you are allowed to add a second MAC address

This should generate a new licence file for you.

I hope this helps and at least can start getting the licensing questions answered.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Hi Lisa,

Any idea for an ETA on the server? So far these two days have been a bust and I'm getting frustrated. (Don't take it personally.)

Another note that someone at TI needs to address is that when the Windows Control panel is used to uninstall something like CCS5, it crashes with the message "Cannot locate file C:\ti/ccs5/..." and hangs at that point. The experience I've had in the past is that Windows just doesn't like the forward slash in the file name and it will never find it.

The reason that I tried the control panel is that since there was an entry there, I'd prefer to follow that path to ensure that the corresponding entry is removed.

Since it seems that I'm just digging myself in deeper, I'll try to be patient - but that doesn't help with the schedule or the client.

  • Hi David,

you will need to clear the browser cache and redownload, but the installer is back up and running.

Please keep us informed how the setup goes.

    Best Regards,

    Lisa

  • Hi Lisa,

Just to close the loop. I was able to download the file and do a full install. (Took well over an hour, but no complications.)

I then re-hosted the license file and was able to come up as "Licensed". When I go back and look at the license file for CCS4, it looks like I may not have used the same MAC address when registering CCS5. A long story...)

Now, if I could just remember why I started this journey! (;-)

    Thanks for your help,

    Dave

  • Hi Dave,

great, very happy to hear ... at least it is a journey with a happy ending.

Thanks for the update and all the best with development.

    Lisa

  • Hello,

I am trying to download CCS 5.2.1 and I am having the same problem with "Unable to access http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_public_sw/sdo_ccstudio/CCSv5/CCS5.2.1.00018_win32".

    I have just uninstalled CCS4.

All I need is the OMAP4460 GEL files.  Any other way of getting them?

  • Hi Victor,

when did you download the installer?   Did yo unzip first?  Is this the lite or full installer?

You can double check here in case it is listed or get the files from a colleague maybe?

    Please keep us informed.

    Lisa

  • Hello,

I downloaded it via a link in the approval email that I just received earlier today.

The name of the installer is ccs_setup_5.2.1.00018.exe.

I try doing the entire process on two different computers with the same result.

    Thanks,

    Victor

  • Hi Victor,

Have you tried with the full installer?   Can you please send the contents of your installjammer registry as requested?  (this is found under program files or program files(x86))

    Best Regards,

    Lisa

  • Hello,

I went through the approval process and got the approval email.  I clicked on that link and downloaded the installer.  I run the installer and got the error window.  So, how do I get the full installer?

I am running Window XP Professional and I don't see that installjammer directory in my c:\Program Files directory.

Also, I tried to access the http://software-dl.ti.com directory and I got a 403 Forbidden error with I don't have permission to access this server.

    Thanks,

    Victor

  • Hi Victor,

the installjammer registry folder might be hidden.   I would download and try the full installer.   Also, you should have recieved an email with a download link, you may also try that.

    Please keep us informed.

    Best Regards,

    Lisa

  • Hello,

The directory was hidden.  I had to run cmd.exe to see it.  There were a ccsv4 and ccsv5 directories.  I deleted them both and try the download process all over again.

I am using the link from the approval email.

Result is no different.  I still cannot get access to the at TI website to download CCS5.

However, I do have the new ccs5 directory in InstallJammer Registry directory.  There are three files in it.  Do you want me to email them to you?  If so what address?

    Thanks,

    Victor

  • Hi Victor,

you can post them here or send them offline in a conversation or friend request.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • So I ran into the same problem with a 5.4 installation.

I was at a customer site installing on his Win7 machine.

Tried the web installer first - it would terminate as soon as the error occurred.

So I did a 2 hour 1.6 gig download "off line" installer.  Same issue.

The solution:  At the first dialog when it asked custom or full, I chose custom and got the error.  Choosing full fixed the issue but installed a bunch of unused drivers on the desktop and took at least 25 mouse clicks and constant supervision.

I was attempting a minimal MSP430 only install, but had to do the full install in order to avoid the error.

    I hope this helps.
