XDS560v2 Mezzanine D2(Yellow) not glowing

Hi

I have been working with the C6678 EVM with XDS560v2 Mezzanine. Recently, I started facing a problem with the emulator. Firstly, the LED's on the mezzanine are in this order:

D1(Red) D3 (Green) D2(Yellow) D4(Red) D6(Green) D5(Yellow).

When powered on, D3(Green) glows first and after initialization, D1(Red) is ON but D2(Yellow) is OFF. CCSv5 is unable to connect to the emulator.

I have connected it to the BH560v2 utility - Tried Reboot, Enabled and cleared safe mode; Updated with the mezzanine firmware file (ti\ccsv5\ccs_base\emulation\blackhawk\firmware); I tried to run the tests using this utility but it would get stuck.

If I try to correlate to the regular Blackhawk XDS560V2 LED information, the yellow LED not glowing might indicate XDS560 FPGA not programmed. Is this correct?

How can this problem be solved?

  • Harini,

This is indeed strange. I discussed this with Blackhawk and the best we can tell is that the mezzanine card is booting and enumerating properly because the Bh560v2Config utility is working. If the emulator did not boot completely, you would not have the options enabled in the utility to reboot, update firmware, run tests, etc.

They agree with you that D2 (Yellow STATE-2 LED) indicates that the FPGA has not been programmed. But this does not mean that the mezzanine card was not programmed at the factory. The FPGA is programmed when the device boots and initializes.

Given that, it is possible that: (a) the mezzanine card is damaged, or (b) the NAND flash got corrupted

Are you able to connect to the device using the embedded XDS100 emulator? This may rule out any problems with the base board.

Also, when you updated the emulator did you use the <bh560v2_fw_mezzanine.out>, dated August 16, 2011? If not, I suggest try "re-updating" the unit with the file using the Bh560v2Config utility.

Can you also please send the output window content from the Bh560v2Config utility? After selecting the device in the device list there is a save output button - can you post this file?

    Regards,

    Rafael

  • Rafael,

Thanks for the reply. The base C6678 board is working with XDS100. And I checked the bh560v2_fw_mezzanine.out, it is the one dated 16th Aug 2011. I have attached the output log from the Bh560v2 Config utility. Please let me know if you find the problem.

  • Harini,

Thanks for sending the log. The USB unit is properly recognized and there are no other emulators visible, therefore there is no risk of confusing adapters.

However, the one thing that strikes me is the fpgaRev=0.0 parameter (In my mezzanine I see fpgaRev=1.5). Maybe it is possible the FPGA is in fact damaged and the device is not able to program it properly.

Another small thing is boardRev=0 (mine is 2), but that could be a consequence of the faulty FPGA. Everything else matches.

In this case you will have to do a RMA directly with Advantec to repair your board or check with your distributor to return your product if this is still under warranty.

    Hope this helps,

    Rafael
