LCDK 6748 with CCS V5 SD XDS510USB emulator

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320C6748

I bought a LCDK tms320c6748 DSP Development Kit, which comes with CCS V5. I could set the option CCSV5 SD XDS510 USB emulator. It seems that failed to activate the CCS for this option. How I can fix this?

thanks

Henry

  • Henry,

The LCDK is confusing when it comes to CCS.  There is a copy of the CCS installation program on the SD card.  When you run CCS for the first time you can select from a number of different license options.  Most TI development kits come with an onboard emulator so you can select the free license that works with XDS100 and onboard emulation.  However the LCDK does not have an onboard emulator so you have to use a standalone emulator.  The XDS510 will not work with the free license for XDS100 and onboard emulation.  You either need to have a full license or you can use the 90 day evaluation license.

I am guessing that you selected the free license for XDS100/onboard emulation and now CCS is complaining when you try to launch the debugger.  If you go to this link you can activate a 90 day full featured license.  Then go to help -> CCS licensing information, click on the upgrade tab and click the button to launch license setup.  Point it to the license file sent to you when you follow that link.

  • I understand that to develop new projects in the CCS V5 with LCDK 6748 requires purchase new hardware that costs over $ 1000 (Emulator XDS510 USB). I purchased 4 cards for academic LCDK why I thought it was not necessary additional hardware and web does not say anything about it. ALTERNATIVE SOLUTION that I can have?

  • I agree.  I don't like the way that kit is packaged today.

As an alternative XDS100 emulators cost $79 and work with a free CCS license (limited to that type of emulator).

I can pass on your feedback about the kit.  If you want to talk to the team directly you can post in the C6000 Single Core DSP Forum here.

  • Emulator which I can use to work with the 6748 LCDK ?

In the IT website are these options:

    TMDSEMU100U-14T:
XDS100 USB JTAG Emulator (14-pin TI connector)

    TMDSEMU100V2U-20T:
XDS100v2 JTAG Emulator (20-pin compact TI connector)

    TMDSEMU100V2U-ARM:
    XDS100v2 JTAG Emulator (20pin & 10pin ARM connectors)

    TMDSEMU100V2U-14T:
XDS100v2 USB JTAG Emulator (14-pin TI connector)

    Thanks
    Henry
  • Henry,

Order TMDSEMU100V2U-14T.  The LCDK has the 14pin header on it.

  • I got burnt by this as well.  In the TI information when I was buying the LCDK I didn't see anything about having to purchase another bit of hardware. If I had i may not have purchased the product and chose something else. I'm now in the dilemma of having a board that I can not do anything with.
