CCSv5 offline updates

Guru* 84110 points

We would like to setup a customer to be able to download CCSv5 and all updates on a PC that is connected to the internet, and then transfer those files to another PC that is not connected to a network. This is for security purposes, where the other PC (on which CCSv5 is running) does not have internet access.

I know we can download the latest CCSv5 as an offline installer and then copy that file to the offline PC, but there are always updates, like emulation updates, that need to be installed immediately and other updates that need to be installed later when new updates are available.

If a purchased license is being used on the offline PC, is there a way to download updates on the online PC as offline files that can then be copied to the offline PC?

  • Randy,

For some of the updates you can do this ok.  i.e. for updates like the compilers or CCS itself you can download the installers and then run them.  Note that MSP and ARM compilers are not available from public download pages but the rest are.

Most updates that you download are executables that we run when CCS restarts.  Those exe's are saved in the temporary \ccsv5\eclipse\downloads folder.  You could select the updates and run the update manager.  When it prompts to restart then go open that folder and copy the files.  You could then run them on an offline machine.  I would only recommend doing that for small items.  For big things like service releases you can just download the CCS image from the web and run it on the offline machine and point it to the existing install.

  • John,

Thanks, this will work well for us.

When you say "most updates that you download are executables", does that mean that there are some that this will not work for, or should we expect them all to work this way (\ccsv5\eclipse\downloads) or the direct download from a public website?

I am pretty sure that we do not have to have a license on the online machine just to be able to download the updates. Is that correct? It would need to download emulator drivers and such.

  • Randy,

CCS will still bug you for a license but you can just pick one of the free licenses.  It will just want there to be a file present but won't actually check what it is good for until you launch the debugger.  The XDS100 license would be good to use.

Some updates are zips so those ones you would have to extract into the correct location.  Any updates that are pure Eclipse P2 packages I think would be installed immediately, not positive on that but if so then they wouldn't show up in the folder.  Most of our updates are P2 wrapped zips and exes so they would be there.
