Why doesn't CCSv5 "see" 7.4.x Code Gen Tool updates?

When I run Help->Check For Updates, CCSv5 doesn't see the 7.4.x CGT tree.  It just found and installed 7.3.9.  According to this link:  http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Production_Compiler_Releases  7.4.x is released.

1.  How do I get CCSv5 to "see" the 7.4.x tree?

2.  What are the major differences between 7.3.x and 7.4.x?

Thanks, Dean

  • Hi Dean,

To find version in a different branch of CGT (Code Generation Tools), you need to follow Help -> Install New Software... instead of Check for Updates.  You will the following dialog.

    > 2.  What are the major differences between 7.3.x and 7.4.x?

You will see release notes by clicking "Go here to" in the Free Compiler Downloads section of http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Compiler_Releases.  We're afraid but could you check the release note of CGT 7.4.0?

    Best Regards,

  • Thanks for pointing out this window.  I assumed that CCSv5 would alert me to new updates for everything (CCSv5 patches, Emulator updates, CGT updates, BIOS updates, etc).  I didn't realize you had to go into this MENU to specify certain things.  I can now see the 7.4.x CGT tree.

I read the release notes for 7.4.x, and it appears it is only useful for C66x DSP (multicore DSP's).  Since we are using the C6748, I don't see a lot of benefit from switching from the 7.3.x tree.

    Thanks, Dean
