Problem using getenv() in CCS 5.3.0

Hi,

we have a problem using the RTS function getenv() over JTAG since CCS 5.3.0. It seems that CCS writes beyond the CIO buffer as soon as the DSP reaches the breakpoint within writemsg():

In Version 5.2.1.00018 it works as expected with the same binary.

These are my conditions:

Hardware: C6415
Host: Windows 7 64 Bit
CG Tools: 7.3.8, rts6400.lib
Emulator: SD XDS510 USB Plus

Ralf,

I haven't seen this yet with C/IO, therefore if you have a chance to send us a testcase that shows this behaviour that would greatly help (we can exchange it in private if you prefer).

If that is not a possibility, then I can keep a close watch on any similar behaviour and see if I can reproduce it locally.

Hi Rafael,

this is an example for the C6414/15/16:

0576.CIO_Test.zip

If you can add __CIOBUF_ to the memory window, you can see what happens if you step over getenv().

I also observed this problem with the C6678.

Thanks for sending this. We were able to reproduce it but some investigation is still under way, as it is somewhat difficult to pinpoint the exact component that is causing this. I'll let you know when I have additional info.

Ralf,

The developer found that this issue was introduced when another Console I/O bug was fixed, and somewhat luckily it only affected the getenv() routine. A bug case is filed as SDSCM00045946 and check its status in the link SDOWP in my signature below.

Unfortunately this has no workaround other than reverting back to a previous release.

I just took a look at the release notes of CCS v5.4 Beta 1. This bug seems not to be fixed in this version. It's really important for us, because CCS Versions before v5.3 are not running stable with our system for other reasons. Is there a chance to get it fixed in v5.4?

Ralf,

I see that this bug was fixed and will be released in CCSv5.4.0. Since the version available is still beta, the fix is not yet incorporated into this build.
