what exact CS version are you using?  What OS? Have you tried again?

- try updating using the free software from elprotronic (www.elprotronic.com)

it would help if we could know the exact version.  Eg 5.2?  5.3?  This can be found under Help->About Code Composer Studio.  Have you had a chance to look at the wiki/try elprotronic?

I am using the CCS Version: 5.2.0.00033

I tried installing a software suggested to me by an expert at the Elprotronic but that didn't helped rather it showed an error:Error Initialising Emulator so I uninstalled that particular software as if now.

Information on the wiki link is useful to correctly install the FET Debugger but not on how to update it.It just says that it takes a few minutes but actually in my case it runs endlessly saying Configuring Debugger...Initialising MSP430 (cannot be canceled)....

Do you have any other alernative?

Hi Niket,

if you could not even connect to the free elprotronic flash programming software then I would say the best next step to take is to verify if this is a hardware or software/driver issue.  Do you have another pc or another FET in order to verify the hardware? what do you see in your device manager?  Are there any exclamation marks for example. Can you try again after doing a driver version downgrade?   You can try to do a downgrade by going to the start menu->texas instruments->MSP-FET430UIF Debug Interface.

Yes,I got to use another identical USB debugger which worked fine.In the device manager it shows my FET debugger as MSP-FET430UIF-CDC(COM41) under the COM Ports lists..I guess there are no issues with the installation of the cable,its just that it requires update which I'm not able to do presently.

You have mentioned start menu->texas instruments->MSP-FET430UIF Debug Interface.....Which start menu are you talking about? There seems no texas instruments folder when I type " texas instruments" in the start menu of the  taskbar of my PC.

Correct me if I have misunderstood.

Hi Niket,

do you have the same update issue with both FETs?   If you are seeing the FET as a CDC this should mean you are on the v3 dll for CCSv5.   The free flash programmer from Elprotronic (www.elprotronic.com - version for the TI USB FET) ... what firmware version does it show/what message does it show?  Just to confirm.

No,the first FET got updated in one go and took no time.The one i'm using currently is not able to complete the update.

Yes,I used the free flash programmer from Elprotronic (www.elprotronic.com).When I ask the software to read the current FET firmware version,it says:

Available Firmware version:3.02.04.005

Current firmware version in the MSP-FET430UIF: 0......

The MSP-FET430UIF does not have the same firmware.

But,I noticed one thing....I guess that might be the issue.It seems that elprotonic software is not able to upgrade the version from V2 to V3.I've already sent a mail regarding this to the concerned person.I'm awaiting his reply.This is what I experienced.......
1. In the FET-Pro430 software I go to tolls>MSP-FET430UIF Firmware Update....it says:
Available firmware version is 3.02.04.005
Current Firmware version in MSP-FET430UIF : 0......
The MSP-FET430UIF  has not the same firmware...then it tells me to download the current firmware so it directs me to upgrade from V2 to V3.
2. After doing that when I again go to update the MSP-FET430UIF firmware it sends me back to step 1,ie upgrade from V2 to V3.
Somethinn;s wrong in this process...Please let me know if you could get this.

the fact that another FET works indicates that the non working one:

- is possibly broken

- has some high level of firmware corruption that still needs to be overcome

Are both FETs the same hardware version?  There are two FET versions/model numbers as indicated on the wiki I sent you and they behave slightly differently with upgrade and downgrade.   Have you been able to try downgrading the one FET first to make sure it has v2 before attempting the upgrade you automatically get asked to do again?

I told you about the 2 similar kind of USB-FET debuggers I have,of which only one is working fine at the moment.I used the FET Pro 430 software to read the MSPFET-430UIF firmware version of both.

1.When I plugged in and checked for the cable which is working fine I got:

Available firmware version- 3.02.04.005

Current firmware version- 3.02.04.005

MSPFET430UIF has the same firmware

2.But when I plugged the one which is giving me troubles I got:

Available firmware version- 3.02.04.005

Current firmware version- 0...

MSPFET430UIF does not  have  the same firmware

I am wondering if the one FET might be broken in this case.  There is not much further we can recommend from our end unfortunately.
