FET430UIF npt working properly - Fails to connect

Just did the uninstall reinstall to see if this cleared up but what I get is the following.

Hardware MSP430f427 in TI Test socket

MSP430 Fet430UIF with 1.4a sticker on the bottom

Uninstalled all of the VCP ports in Device manager

ReInstalled after uninstall complete version CCS 5.3.0.00090

Chose fet410_1 sample project

Changed P5 to P1 where needed in sample code

Build is clean

Select Debug and get the upgrade firmware message

Select upgrade and nothing seems to happen.

Go through and select debug again and get upgrade firmware.  Wait 30 minutes and red green lights still on. 

Open up the server log and see the following

!MESSAGE DS_ERROR: Error initializing emulator:
A firmware update is required for the MSP430 Debug Interface (MSP-FET430UIF). Click the "Update" button to update the firmware and launch your debug session.  Answer "yes" to any driver installation dialogs that pop up during the update.

DO NOT UNPLUG THE INTERFACE DURING THE UPDATE.

Caution:
This update includes significant changes. Older versions of Code Composer Studio or other IDEs may not work with this update. A downgrade will have to be performed manually. See www.ti.com/mspds for details.

From the time stamps it looks like it failed pretty quickly

Still shows a vcp in the Device manager

Now what??

    Hi Frank,

    have you followed the steps on this wiki for the 1.4a version FET you have?  The updating goes slightly differently unfortunately.

    Please give that a try.  As well there is a very nice free flash programmer from Elprotronic that I regularly use to monitor and manage the FET firware. (www.elprotronic.com).

    Thought I did,

    Clean install of CCSV5.3 should have installed the drivers

    "Whenever you install a new IDE (>CCSv5.1 or >IAR EW 5.40) or other MSP430 utilities that use the MSP430.DLLv3 the new CDC USB drivers will also be installed on your PC without any user interaction. "

    IDE told me a firmware update was needed.  I hit the update button

    Still on previous version , 3 red then green

    When I try to debug I gert Cannot find on specified com port.  Can't find anywhere to change this other than the selections for USB

    What do I need to uninstall, reinstall? to get this accomplished?

    BTW UIF is still good, works with Crossworks, I tried it just now to be sure

    Deleted the VCP port

    unplugged and replugged the FET

    VCP reappeared

    Started up CCS and hit debug

    Told me again that firmware needed upgrade

    hit up grade

    Seems to exit quickly

    Console

    Tried again, twice, and now get

    Tried with the Run as administrator

    Got a diffferent but error

    Error initializing emulator:
    Not supported by selected Interface or Interface is not initialized

    How do I initialize.

    Thanks for your help.

    Downloaded and installed the Elpotronic software.

    Didn't update at first.

    Plugged in to a USB port on the computer, eliminated a hub)

    This got a response and after a couple of iterations the FET is finally updated.
