ccs5 installation with Windows 8

I m trying to get the free trial version of ccs5 running on a windows 8 computer.  I downloaded ccs_setup_5.2.1.00018 and ran it.  Everything is as described in: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Windows_8_CCS until I get to:

"Once the installation has completed you will need to manually install one of the Microsoft redistributable packages. Go to the folder that contains the installation image (i.e. the extracted zip). Browse to the /CCS5.x.x.xxxxxx_win32/baserepo folder (the x's will be the version that you are installing). Run the vcredist_x86.exe installation package. "

I don't find any of these folders / files anywhere on my computer.  When I start CCS5 I can't open any project files.

  • Hi,

were you using the lite installer?  would you be wiling to install v5.3 from the full installer into a fresh directory and letting us know whether that works better for you?

    Best Regards,
    lisa

  • I also meant to note the package is available directly from microsoft.

  • Hi Lisa,

I uninstalled and tried to then install v5.3.  I get the error "failed to install eclipse, cannot recover from this error".

I don't know what "lite installer" is.  I originally followed links for free download.

    Thanks, Carl

  • Hi Carl,

the full installer is the large download with an actual zip file with the program.

Are you able to check for antivirus interference?   Could you please send the installation logs?  These are found in the installjammer registry directory, which is possibly hidden and is found in the program files or program files(x86) directory.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Hi Lisa,

I found "Troubleshooting CCSv5" on the TI website and ran thru it as completely as possible.

I am trying to install from the zip download, extracted to c:\ti

    I turned off virus protection

I deleted installjammer files and retried installation.

I've attached "ccs_setup_5.3.0.00090_install.txt" maybe you can make some sense of it?

Would you recommend changing to windows 7?  I really need to get this software running.  Can I get more support if I purchase a version vs. installing the trial now and purchasing later?

    Thanks for your help!1680.ccs_setup_5.3.0.00090_install.log

  • One problem I see is the path to your Windows user folder is causing the installer a problem.  I'm not sure if this is Windows8 specific or not but we'll investigate.

Would it be possible for you to create a different user on this PC with a different login name (something like "install" with no spaces) and install from there?

  • Hi Andy,

Creating an "install" user worked.  I was able to get CCS5 running.

However, windows 8 somehow mixed up the naming of my user accounts and I deleted the wrong one after install...  I'm off to BestBuy to see if there's any way of recovering my user account.

  • Ouch. I hope you are able to recover that.

We did determine the problem you ran into is with having spaces in the login ID and is Windows 8 specific. It will be fixed for CCSv5.4.
