Problems when adding DSP/BIOS v5.xx to my projects.

Hello,

When I attempt to create a new project using CCS v5.3, in my Project templates and examples I only have:

Empty PrIojects

Basic Examples

as templates and examples; what happened to IPC and I/O examples, SYS/BIOS and DSP/BIOS v.5xx, or System Analyzer. I'm trying to debug a issue on a TMS320C5410 board using the new CCS v5.3.

Thanks

Vernon O. Williams

  • HI Vernon,

these are all supported in v5.3.  Can you explain a bit what you have attempted to help us debug and/or attmpt to reproduce.

    - did you create a CCS project?  RTSC project?  Import a project?

Could you send a screen capture?   Did you select BIOS support when installing?  One tip is to check for any antivirus or permissions issues.

    Best Regards,

    Lisa

  • These items are present in CCSv5.3 but they do not support C5410 so they don't show up when you are creating a new project for that device.

There are older versions of DSP/BIOS that support C5410 but not the ones that ship with newer versions of CCS.  I believe BIOS 5.3x was the last one to support C54xx but it might even have been 5.2x.

  • Thanks,

When I check Code Composer Studio Installation Details, I notice that DSP/BIOS(IDE/Client) and DSP/BIOS(Target Content) are listed under the tab Installed Software?

  • Vernon,

DSP/BIOS 5.4x is installed but that version does not support C54xx devices.  The last version of DSP/BIOS that supports C5410 was DSP/BIOS 5.31.

What shows up on the project wizard is dependent on what device you have selected.

For C66xx you can see the templates for SYS/BIOS, DSP/BIOS, IPC because the are all supported for those devices.

For C55x devices you don't see SYS/BIOS and IPC as they are not supported.  But you do see DSP/BIOS as it is supported:

For C54xx you don't see any of them because they are not supported.

If you were to install DSP/BIOS 5.31 you would still not see the DSP/BIOS templates in the project wizard as that version of BIOS does not contain the templates as it was not designed for CCSv5.  You can get DSP/BIOS 5.31 here: http://software-dl.ti.com/dsps/dsps_registered_sw/sdo_sb/targetcontent/bios/index.html  but the reality is that setting up CCSv5 to work with that older version of BIOS is a real pain.  Do you still have a copy of CCSv3 that you could use for this project?

    Regards,

    John

  • I tried using the example with DSK5509A, DSP/BIOS. I received the same error as before: "RTDX Detected Error. Error detected in Registration with RTDX. Aborting RTDX Registration. RTDX is disabled for this session. Contact your Emulator vendor and use CCSetup to select a different one."

  • Trying to test connection with the TMDSEVM6678 and I get this error "dbgjtag.exe Unable to locate component: This application has failed to start because FTD2XX.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem." I did a search and the file "FTD2XX.dll" is resident on my computer.

  • Hi Vernon,

it seems your drivers may still not be properly installed.  (This is our best guess).

Can you verify how/what version you installed and whether you see any issues in the device manager?  Also one thing to look into might be for any permissions or antivirus interference/problems.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Thanks Lisa,

I have installed CC 5.3. I'm using BIOS 6_34_02_18. I did check my Device Manger their are no problems. I also tried to install the TMDSEVM6678, maybe that had an effect on CCS 5.3?

  • HI Vernon,

what OS are you using?  Do you know what version and where the installed drivers came from?  Although I would hope not, it might be worth investingating whether the other development software might have also put some other version of the drivers somewhere.  Did you manually install the drivers?

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Lisa,

Yes, I'm using XP on my Laptop, but I'm using Windows 7 on my desktop. I'm having the same problem on both systems. I tried installing the MCSDK for the TMDSEVM6678. CCS 5.3 saids it couldn't find the "ftd2xx.dll". There are about 4 DLL's that are suppose to be in my windows/system32 directory. When I check, they are not there. If I could get CCS 5.3 to work with my DSK5510 board that would be great? I think that would be easier?

  • Hi Vernon,

for the ftdi driver problem, as a next step would you please try downloading and installing the drivers from the ftdi site?

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/FAQ_-_CCSv5#Q:_I_can.27t_connect_to_my_BeagleBone_in_CCSv5._What_is_happening.3F

I certainly hope it there will be no hurdles getting you up and running with the DSK5510!   For this you are best to get the drivers from spectrum digital

Please continue to keep us informed and thanks for you patience as we troubleshoot here.

  • Hi Lisa,

I tried downloading and installing the drivers from the fidi site? And the same problem occurs. I'm not sure where the drivers were loaded. When I checked my windows/system32 directory, they were not there. I made sure my virus protection was disabled for the download. I will work with the System Adm person tomorrow. Will keep you posted.

    Thanks,

    Vernon

  • Hi Vernon,

ok, please do keep us informed and it might be worth looking for any antivirus similar programs as well.  Ie some pc agent that scans and blocks various processes etc.

    All the best,
    Lisa
