Upgrade to CS 5.3 - Can't see previous projects in Project Explorer

After upgrading to 5.3, CCS no longer recognizes any of my previous projects.  I can't import them cause it can't see them.  I can create a new project and it shows up in project explorer. I can browse to the workspace directory and see all my older projects and the new one, but no luck with the older ones with CCS project explorer.  Any hints?

  • Hi maddox

    how did you import?  As a ccs project? Project -import exiting ccs/eclipse project

    can you try deleting the metadata?

    best regards,

    lisa

  • I tried importing as follows:

    1. Import Existing CCS Eclipse Project   --> won't see any projects

    2. Import Legacy CCS V3.3 Project  --> won't see any projects

    So I saved the .Metadata folder off and deleted from the workspace directory

    Result:  Cannot see any previous (or even the project (Foo)I created under 5.3) projects

    Then I tried to import existing Eclipse CCS projects, the only one visible was the one that I had created under 5.3 (Foo) and I was able to import it.

    So I am still stuck

    Thanks for your help.

    Maddox

  • I looked at the new project folder that I had created (project Foo) and it had the following files in it:

    .cproject

    .project

    .ccsproject

    and a .settings folder

    When I look at one of my previous projects, none of these files/folders starting with a "." are there, here is what is in the old Blinky project folder:

    1. Debug          --> File Folder

    2. blinky              --> C file

    3. blinky_ccs    --> Windows Command Script

    4. macros.ini_initial  --> INI_INITIAL File

    5. startup_ccs     -->  C File

    6. target_config.ccxml   --> CCXML file

    So very different directory structure...

  • Hi Madox,

    could you send the problem project?  What version were they created with?  How did you update?

    best regards,

    lisa

  • I can't remember what version they were created with either 3 or 4.  I've zipped the file folder and attached it below.  The last version I was using was version 5.1, I believe.  I upgraded by using the "check for updates" under the help tab.  When I found out all my projects were invisible, I did a new install of 5.3 in a different directory c:\tinew, but the same behavior.

    Also - I made a new project folder under 5.3 and copied in the c-file from one of the older programs.  <msp4420g2553.h> was no longer found...I had to change it to <msp430.h> it then compiled and ran.  I'd hate to have to recreate all my projects in 5.3 and copy the c-file and edit the includes....

  • Hi Maddox,

    this is odd indeed.  It seems all ccs project files are not there.

    Am I correct in saying that new projects are fine?  Can you double check whether there might be some antivirus or permissions issue here that is playing with your structure?   Were there any changes or accidental deletions?

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Your statement made me think about what else had changed...I moved my CCS workspace to a shared file service (Cubby) that will not synchronize files that begin with a period, which is why all those are missing.  Wish I knew Cubby didn't support files/folders that start with a period (.)

    I'll move it out of shared storage and see what happens

  • Hi Maddox,

    ok, please keep us informed whether that restores things for you.

    Best Regards,

    Lisa

  • The Cubby filesharing was the problem.  I moved the workspace to a place were all components starting with a period (.) show up and was able to import projects into CCS 5.3.  Thanks for your support!

  • Hi Maddox,

    ok, great, glad to hear you found the issue and have the projects importing now.

    All the best with development.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa
