Can't uninstall CCS 5.3

I would like to uninstall CCS5.3 so that I can do a clean install.  However, when I try to unistall it I get the following error:

You do not have sufficient access to uninstall Code Composer Studio 5.3.0. Please contact your system administrator.

I have tried uninstalling as an administrator and it did not help.  I have CCS5.1 installed, and it does not give me the error message.

Do I need to uninstall 5.1 to be able to uninstall 5.3?  What can I do to uninstall 5.3?

Thanks.

  • Hi David,

it is unfortunate, but known CCS does not always cleanly uninstall.  What we  many times ourselves is manually remove the folders/ccs from the system and this is what I recommend.

You do not need do also remove 5.1 although I recommend sticking to the latest version and at some point installing 5.3 into a fresh directory.

    Hope this helps clarify.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Thanks.  Can you give me a list of the folders I would need to remove to make sure I get everything and don't leave pieces behind?

    Thanks,

    Dave

  • Hi David,

this will depend where you installed to and whether you wish to remove bios etc as well.

If you realy want to clean everything out than go to your install folder and you should see a ccsv5 folder.  This and everything under it should be removed.   Also the other folders at the same level ... ie bios, uia, etc etc.

    Hope this helps.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Hi Lisa,

The bug still takes place! Install and uninstall - that's the very basic functionality of a product installer, and now you have half of functionality broken and everyone is suffering. Its severity is HIGH, it should have been fixed since February. Where is your QA?

It must be trivial to fix - just search for the error string in the installer script.

Someone has added a check that only admin user would be able to uninstall, the check doesn't work as it should.

I would gladly help you in fixing this - but I trust you have enough resources.

    Best regards,

    Victor

  • Hi Victor,

Is the message you are receiving the one issued by Windows ("Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to your computer?").  If so, then the system is behaving as expected and one should be able to uninstall using the same privileges as assigned during installation.  We trust that the same user-id who had the privilege to install would also have the privilege to uninstall.

If you are receiving a different message, please provide more details.

    Regards,

    Nabil

  • Hi Nabil,

No, the message is the same as in the original post:

"You do not have sufficient access to uninstall Code Composer Studio".

I also expected that the same user who has installed the software should be able to uninstall it but it is not the case, unfortunately.

I had installed CCS 4 and CCS 5.5 (the latest, I believe) - and there were errors during installation of CCS5 because of conflicting package versions. I would like to uninstall everything and start it all over - but I cannot.

    Best regards,

    Victor

  • Hi Victor,

It's safe to remove everything in the ccsv5 folder, if you're having issues uninstalling. We're working on improving the uninstall experience in v6.

  • It seems unacceptable that this problem still exists one year after the original post.  There are likely other people wasting time fighting with the installer every day.

  • Hi Ryan,

I sympathize with your frustration.  However, as suggested, removing the installed folder itself would be the safest way to uninstall CCSv5.  Unfortunately there are many limitations associated with Eclipse that make the uninstallation process more complex than it would appear at first glance.

Uninstallation and ability to revert back are issues that are have been tackled for our CCSv6 release, which is to be released in the April timeframe.  I believe you will be pleased with the improvements achieved there.
Note that CCSv5.5 (released in Sep 2013) was the last service release in the CCSv5 release stream, and no new CCSv5 releases are planned.

  • Hi Ryan,

I am in the middle of just about the same problem. And, I have gotten the same error. However, I found an unstall EXE file IN the CCS 5 file folder that works without error. Hope that helps.

  • Hello David,

Thank you for your reply. I did eventually succeed in removing CCS 5.3. The hint about the uninstall is helpful.

  • Ryan,

Cool, Thanks for the reply good to hear from you.

I've actually done it several times so I'm getting quite good at it, don't know that I would want it on my resume tho. :)

Glad you got your problems solved, I too am back up and running. I was just trying to be helpful.

    Have a great Week.
