CCS 5.3 license

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320C6726B

Back in March of 2009, I purchased a 'Platimun' license for CCS.  I think I received a license file for v4.x of CCS in 2010.  I still have the CCS IDE 'Service Code' number, if that helps.

All I have used so far is CCS v3.3 on a Windows XP platform, to build code for a TMS320C6726B DSP chip.

I would like to start development work using a Stellaris Cortex-M3 or M4 chip.  Does CCS v5.3 include a compiler for the Cortex-Mx series chips?  If so, then how do I upgrade my license to support CCS v5.3 (if that is your latest version)?

I plan to run CCS v5.3 on a Windows 7, 64-bit machine, with 8GB of RAM.

Is there a debugger pod I need for making the JTAG connection to the target machine?  I have an XDS510 USB Plus, from Spectrum Digital - will that work?

Thanks,
  Steve

  • Hi Steve,

your hardware and emulator will continue to work in ccsv5.3.

The more relavent question - licensing.  You have three scenarios

    - if you have an active subscription  you are entitled to a v5 license

    - you can try the demo license before deciding (there is a built in 90 day trial)

    - if you use the XDS100 or certain EVMs, you do not need a purchased license

You should be able to see if you have an active subscription here, but most only last a year unless you have renewed

Please keep us informed and I hope this helps.  You should find v5 better but with a very similar feel to v4 as both are eclipse based although v5 is now based on a non-modifed version of eclipse which has many advantages.

    Lisa

  • Lisa,

I don't have an active subscription.  I looked up my status on 'myregisteredsoftware', and it does not appear to be correct.  It shows my purchase in 2009, but shows the subscription expiring in 2010.  I know that 1 year after I made the initial purchase, I then made an additional purchase of 1 year of subscription support.  Then you (TI) sent me a license file for v4.x of CCS, which I never used.  Remember, as I mentioned in my previous message - the only CCS version I have been using is CCS v3.3 for the C6726B DSP chip.  That subscription should have expired in 2011, not in 2010 as shown on your web site.

In any case, the 'myregisteredsoftware' page is confusing.  What is an 'Activation ID'?  What is an 'Entitlement ID'?

I do some of my builds from my desktop PC at home, and some builds from my laptop.  How does your license accommodate that?

Do you have a CCS that does not use Eclipse?  Eclipse is such a pig!  I hate using tools based on Java - I hate using Eclipse.

    Thanks for your help.

    Steve

  • Hi Steve,

to answer .. no matter what it appears you do not have an active subscription so would need to purchase a v5 license.   The node locked license can be registered to 2 MAC addresses to allow your "desk" and "laptop"/remote use scenario.  So you will be fine in this regard.

All current CCS versions are eclipse based.  However, not based on the java version but on the C/C++ eclipse version.  So it is not at all java based ... even thought the two languages are not extremely dissimilar.

The only CCS not eclipse based is v3.3 and earlier which are old depricated versions.

Does this help clarify/address the relavent points for you.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Lisa,

So, where do I find the details of how to upgrade my CCS license to a v5 license?

What is the duration of that license?  Does it ever 'expire'?

What happens to the license when the support subscription expires?

What happens to the license when I need to retire the laptop and/or the desktop PC?

What happens if I don't have an active subscription at that point?

What version of Java Runtime is required to run the Eclipse version you are using?

Is CCS v5.3 compatible with Windows 7 64-bit, as well as Windows Vista 32-bit?  How about Windows XP?

Are the emulator pod drivers available for all those OSes?

    Thanks,
      Steve

  • Hi Steve,

ok, let me run through this:

So, where do I find the details of how to upgrade my CCS license to a v5 license?

It does not appear you are eligible, but if you happen to be the instructions are

    • Go to www.ti.com/myregisteredsoftware
    • Find your row for TMDSCCS-ALLF03-v4.0
    • Click MANAGE and then click UPGRADE – GET NEW LICENSE
    • Click E-mail license - you will receive two (2) emails: Instructions and License File with attachment (.lic)
    • You MUST follow these instructions to save this new License File (.lic) before you can use your upgraded version

What is the duration of that license?  Does it ever 'expire'?

No, only the demo license expires.

What happens to the license when the support subscription expires?

You are no longer eligible for upgrades.

What happens to the license when I need to retire the laptop and/or the desktop PC?

You can rehost your license.  Once on your own at www.ti.com/myregisteredsoftware, after that the license team helps you.  ccs_subscriptions@list.ti.com

What happens if I don't have an active subscription at that point?

    Rehosting is not subscription dependent.

What version of Java Runtime is required to run the Eclipse version you are using?

It should be 1.6.0_13 that comes packaged.

Is CCS v5.3 compatible with Windows 7 64-bit, as well as Windows Vista 32-bit?  How about Windows XP?

Yes, officially for Win 7 and XP.    It is not "officially" supported for Vista, however we have many customers who are successfully using it on Win Vista as well.   32 and 64 bit ... both ok for Vista and Win 7.  Windows 8 will also be supported moving forward.

Are the emulator pod drivers available for all those OSes?

This depends on the emulator.  For most you will not see a issue on your listes OSs for most any emulator.  However, we do rely on third party drivers in some cases and especially for old parallel port version there may not be ccsv5 drivers or 64 bit drivers.  But most are ok.  I would recommend checking both our emulation wiki as well as the manufacturers site for compatibility when you have chosen an emulator.

    Hope this helps.

  • Hi,

My CCS v5.3 also couldn'd be activated. As I enter my softwaremanager, there is no information about my product ID and I couldn't get the license file .

    Could do me a favor?

    Regard Ford.

  • Ford,

first, please post to a new thread next time.  This is more efficient.

-> what type of license were you expecting to use?

-> How/where did you purchase the license and what type is it?   (since you mention activation id, this is only with a purchased license)

    Best Regards,

    Lisa
