Hi,
I have installed the C2800 Code Generation Tools V6.0.5 on my system. Now I need to change an older project that uses the version V6.0.4. So I wanted to install this version as well on my system. But CCS V5.3 does not allow me to install it. What can I do to install this older version (of course without uninstallation of the newer one)?
Please see pictures below.
Thanks.
Best regards,
Patrick
Hi Patrick,
you can point ccs to the installation you have of the older version under Window->Preferences->COde composer studio->build->code generation tools.
Please keep us informed how that goes.
Best Regards,
Lisa
Hi Lisa,
As I have written in the first post I do not have the older tools (V6.0.4) on my system. That's why I want to install them. But CCS V5 does not let me doing that (please see pictures in the first post). How do I have to do that? Separate tools are only downloadable with 32k limitation.
Hi Patrick,
were you not using them previously? Did you delete them? At any rate, connect with me offline and I will see about permission to send you the version you are asking for.
My ID is a link you can use for a friend/conversation request.

Lisa
Hi,
Please check the wiki page below. You can download the compiler v6.0.4, install it in an arbitrary directory and use Lisa's suggestion to point to this older version of the compiler tools. You can also do that for a single project as well.

Hope this helps,

Hi,
@ desouza
We do not want to work with code size limited versions of the Code Generation Tools (we pay for CCS!).
@ Lisa
This was just an example. One person in our team needed to work on a older project and missed the Code Generation Tools V6.1.1 but has already installed V6.1.3. So in this case he was not able to install the needed version V6.1.1. As I had V6.1.1 on my system I could only show the problems with V6.0.4 and V6.0.5.
We have this problems a lot of times when people have to work on projects that other people have started.
Why does CCS V5 not allow to install Tools that are older? That's just not useable. With the CCS V3.3 we were able to install all versions of the tools without any limitations. Now CCS V5 offers to tell what tools to use in the projects (and that fantastic) but I'm not able to install it. What a bummer!
Just get rid of this limitations and allow people to install what ever version they need. If it's not possible within CCS V5 than let them download it with a valid license of CCS V5 (like it was in CCS V3.3).
Thanks,
Patrick
Hi Patrick,
yes the C2000 downloads are
1 - currently down
2- the code limited versions.
As I mentioned, please connect with me offline. I am pretty sure I can get the permission to then send them.
Thanks,
Lisa
Patrick,
Sorry, I didn't notice the C2000 versions there were code size limited.
Filed bug SDSCM00046821 to address that. Please check its status at the link SDOWP in my signature below.

Rafael
Patrick,
Unfortunately the update tool that we leverage in CCS (from Eclipse) doesn't let you install an older version of a feature that you already have. i.e. you can't install 6.1.1 if you have 6.1.3. We did make it so that you could go back and install 6.0.0 if you want as we have make it so that 6.0.x and 6.1.x are separate features to workaround this issue. Thus the limitation now is that you cannot install an older version of a given stream. Generally this hasn't been much of an issue a people usually want to be on the latest version of a compiler stream. For the version numbers they mean <major>.<minor>.<patch>. For compiler <patch> releases there are no features added, only bug fixes and thus it is highly recommended that you are on the latest <patch> for the compiler stream that your project uses.
There is more information here: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Compiler_Updates
For some device families you can download the full compilers outside of CCS but that is not the case today for C28x, msp430 or ARM. We can send you a private message with a link to the 6.1.1 version.

John
Hi Patrick,
I just got your friend request and will send you 6.0.4 offline.
Best Regards,
Lisa
Hi John,
I fully agree with you on a tools perspective view. We try to use the lastest patch version of the tools where ever we can. But if we have written code for a product and this code was successfully tested and then we need to add features let's say two years later then we want to use exact the same tools as we used before to minimize risk.
It would be very helpful if customers with a valid license could download C2800 tools they need without having to call TI first.
Maybe TI has to get rid of Eclipse...
Best regards,
Patrick
Patrick,
I was told the C2000 compiler tools are not the limited versions anymore (despite what is printed on the page). I tested the latest release from each branch since 5.0.x and, if I didn't do any mistake, all of them built code larger than 32kB.
Regards,
Rafael
Hi Rafael,
This would definitely make my day! Thanks for testing. If you could clarify this issue TI internally with the Code Generation Tool guys and when the "code size limited" sentence is disappeared from the page then our problem is solved 100%. This would help us a lot and probably many other customers.
Would be nice if you could give me a feedback on this topic.
Thanks.
Best regards,
Patrick
Patrick,
I changed the bug request I filed before to update the page instead (and obviously follow with a thorough test of all the releases of each branch). This is an easy fix and hopefully it will be fixed soon (unfortunately I don't control the page publishing...).

Rafael
Rafael,
We have now checked the Code Generation Tools V6.1.4 from CCS V5.x Update and the following site:
https://www-a.ti.com/downloads/sds_support/TICodegenerationTools/download.htm#C2000
We did a binary comparison of the file "lnk2000.exe" and "cl2000.exe" and found differencies(!). The question is how comes?
Does TI have different binaries? That makes me not feeling very comfortable.
Can you please send us the official "Code Generation Tools V6.1.4" for ofline installation as Lisa did with two other versions (please see in this thread).
Thanks.
Best regards,
Patrick
Rafael,
Code Generation Tools V5.2.15 are definitely code size limited (found on https://www-a.ti.com/downloads/sds_support/TICodegenerationTools/download.htm#C2000)
So as long as TI does not officially tells us that they are not code size limited I asume they are and hence TI needs to send us the versions on request.
Patrick
Hi Patrick,
connect with me offline and we will see what can be done.

I followed up with the correct people to fix the page once and for all.
Lisa, thanks for the help in providing the compiler to him.
Cheers,
Rafael
Patrick,
At last the page was successfully updated, thanks to the internal compiler team. The compiler releases for C2000 are the full versions and the code size limitation remark was removed. Hopefully this will solve this issue once and for all.

Rafael
Rafael,
That's great news and makes life for us much easier. Thanks.
Any plans to publish ARM code generation tools on this site as well? Or do they exist on an other site?
Thanks and best regards,
Patrick
