CCS 3.3 Licensing Question

I am working on a project which requires the customer to install a COFF file (.out) to a C6713 processor over JTAG.  We use a Spectrum Digital XDS510USB and CCS3.3 Platinum Platform Edition to do this, and are able to instruct our customer load programs with a SD XDS510USB programmer and CCS3.3.  Although a full CCS3.3 installation is overkill and unnecessary, it seems easier than alternatives such as Blackhawk's BHLoader command-line utility (which requires additional files and parameters I could not easily locate).

Because Code Composer Studio version 3.3 is no longer available from Spectrum Digital, we would like to be able to provide a copy if it is allowed under our license agreement.  We have an install disk for CCS IDE 3.3 Platinum Edition (TMDSCCSALL-1 / TMDUCCSALL Version 3.3) procured for us by a subcontractor.  An internet search suggests this might be a node-locked license with installation permitted on two machines.  I cannot locate the license agreement file which would presumably enumerate what is permitted / prohibited with our current software.

Is there a license agreement that goes with TMDSCCSALL-1 / TMDUCCSALL Version 3.3 that might help us figure out whether we can allow the customer to install a copy?  Am I overlooking an obvious way for a COFF file to be installed using just the .out file?

Thank you!

John

  • John,

Here is a copy of the license.  8867.Full_Production_License CCStudio 3_3.pdf

  • JohnS,

    Thank you!

As a follow-up, the forum/wiki might indicate that CCS 3.3 may be installed by customers who have purchased version 5 (e.g. 5.3) and have an active support contract.

I am specifically referencing this thread: http://e2e.ti.com/support/development_tools/code_composer_studio/f/81/t/244582.aspx

Would we be able to either:

    (1) Provide a copy of our disk to our customer if they purchase CCS v.5

    (2) Recommend CCS v.5 and recommend they contact someone at TI (e.g. Lisa) to download a copy of CCS3.3 Platinum they can install.

If this approach is okay, would you recommend a CCS5 product?  I do not want to recommend the wrong version.

    Thank you!

    -John

  • John,

To do (1) we have to give you the right to distribute so it would be best to go with (2).  We do that pretty frequently where someone buys v5 and lets us know that they want v3.3 and we just send them a link.

    John

  • John,

Would you be able to recommend a version of 5.x they could buy that would give them permission to download CCS3.3 Platinum? I don't want to recommend the wrong product.

    Thank you!

    -John

  • John,

If they were to buy CCS today it would likely have a 5.1 or 5.2 DVD in it, if they buy the download version it would direct them to 5.3.  The version doesn't really matter as long as it is 5.1 or later.  I would recommend that they buy the node locked license for CCS.  Once they have that they can just post a thread here and say they purchased v5 and would like 3.3.  Lisa or someone would then start a private conversation with them and ask for their activation code and then would send them a link where they could download 3.3.

    Regards,

    John

  • John,

Would this be the store link I'd recommend to buy the download version of CCS v.5?

I ask because this costs a bit less ($450) than I expected.  It would be a pleasant surprise if this is indeed the right version.

    Thank you!

  • Yes that is the correct one.
