Unable to start vendor: tidspssw.

Trying to get never to be sufficiently damned FlexLm to run and I am getting the following error attempting to start the TI daemon

Unable to start vendor: tidspssw.

I have followed the intructions on the wiki page (which are missing the note that you have to run the install as administrator even if you have administrator privleges) but there is no clue as to what might be missing.

  • Hi Robert,

we would need some further information.  could you please describe exactly what you did.

    Some initial things to verify:

    - did you set the server up as a service and try restarting?

    - what OS are you using?

    - did you use the GUI setup as per the wiki?

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • I installed the SW as directed in the Wiki (expect for do run as adminstrator which appears to be required)

    Imported the license file

When the service is restarted I get a status on the daemon of down

    OS is Windows 7 x64

As stated in the original post I followed the Wiki instructions.

  • Hi Robert,

there are multiple reasons the daemon may not be starting.

    - did you use the GUI license manager?

    - can you check for further permissions/antivirus blocking?  It is possible your antivirus or a further windows permission item is blocking the daemon.  We have seen this in the past where the daemon needed to be added to some access/permissions lists

    - could you send the log file?

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • As stated earlier I followed the Wiki instructions.  I do not believe they give instructions for anything other than the GUI license manager for windows.

As far as checking, sure but I will need some idea of what ports etc.. I am checking for.

OK, that was worthwhile looking at. I found a tidspssw.exe in the processes and killed it. On restart from the web page It will now transition to run.

Still not working when checking license information from the IDE though
I'd send the technical information but there appears to be no way to copy it.

I have found the license server setup in the Manage tab. Unfortunately the documentation says to use @localhost with no port number for the default
configuration. The Add licence Location tab insists on a port. Since for the default a range of port addresses is possible I do not see a way of setting this.

  • Hi Robert,

@localhost means the server and ccs are on the same machine/at the same MAC address.  try the default 27000@MAC ADDRESS

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Yes, same host

Tried various combinations of localhost, mac address (both of these give a host not found error) and 127.0.0.1.  The latter at least does not give a host not found error but it does give an error from licensing of -97,121.  I am assuming it is not finding the port.

BTW the port@address syntax is not accepted by the licensing manager in CCS.  It does isist they be entered in separate fields.

    Robert

  • Got it.  The details on the TI Daemon mentions a port.  It turns out that is the port to that is used by the license manager (Non-obvious).  It happens to be 52818.

Now how sure can I be that it will not change.  I'm leery of of hard coded magic numbers that appear to have no rhyme or reason for being different from the documentation.  In other words why is this different from the documentation and how can I be sure it won't change on me?

    Robert

  • Hi Robert,

happy to hear.    To be honest none here are flexnet experts so I can not explain the unusual port.   In the GUI interface, admin section, you can specify a port but that is really the only place I am familiar with this being set.

Especially if you keep the server running as a service, i don't see why or how the port would change.  i have never had a case of someone having this happen to them.

    All the best with development,

    Best regards,

    Lisa

  • Thanks Lisa

    Appreciate the help.

    Robert

  • I too am experiencing the same problem, but none of the advice offered above has been any help in getting towards a solution.  Our License Server is running on a 64-bit Windows 7 PC.

Here is the log file produced by Flexnet which provides some strong clues as to the cause of the problem.  Unfortunately, our IT specialist has no prior experience with Flexnet and cannot decipher these clues.  Hopefully, someone at TI can:

  • Hi Matthew,

first may I say that it is always much better practice to start a new thread.   It also greatly reduces the chance of things slipping through the cracks.

Having said that it looks like the license might have been setup to the incorrect MAC address.  Is is a new license you are just setting up?   Can you verify the servers eth0 address in particular was used to activate the license?

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Hi Lisa,

Yes, this is a new license that we are just trying to set up.  How do I verify that the server's eth0 address was used to activate the license?

  • Hi,

    there are a couple things:

1- from a dos prompt ipconfig /all shows you all your setup

2 - double check you registered with the MAC address that the server was asking for in that message

If, as I suspect you simply need to rehost, you can do this the first time yourself here:

    www.ti.com/myregisteredsoftware

    Please keep us informed.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Hi Lisa,

Thank you for sharing that link for the rehosting process.  I went through all that and came out at the end with no change in my Error Message.  I also confirmed (via Ipconfig) that the MAC address in the license matches the MAC address of our Server.  Do you have any other suggestions?

  • Hi Matthew,

can you verify you used the eth0 address specifically?  Also, did you restart the server and vendor daemon/reread the new license file?

What specific error do you get now?

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Hi Lisa,

I had to restart the service from the Windows Services Screen and now Flexnet is up and operating!  Thank you for your assistance.

  • Hi Matthew,

great, very happy to hear and thanks for the update.

    All the best with development.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa
