Passing xds100v2 to vmware-XP-client fails with : The device is currently in use

Hello,

I have the following constellation:

- Notebook

       - Win7

       - Code Composer Studio 5.1.1

        - connected via xds100v2 to to my target

        - runs fine

- vmware machine on notebook

         - XP SP2

         - Code Composer Studio 5.1.1

Once I want to pass the xds100v2 device to my virtual machine I see it in the vmware player as USB-device but I fail while getting the error message: "The device is currently in use"

I tried disabling and also removing the driver on the notbook but it did not help.

I also tried to plug in the device with vmware machine already running in combination with the USB-option "Automatically connect new USB devices" but with no success

I do not want to deinstall Code Composer Studio from the notebook as I still need it there.

  • Hello,

Sounds like the host has some control over the emulator. What version of VMware player/workstation are you using?

Also would you be willing to upgrade your CCS version to something more recent?

    Thanks

  • Hello,

I have the newest vmware player and also tried the new CCS - same result.

I found out that the problem seems to be the USB3 interface and/or driver on the notebook. The notebook sadly has only USB3.

Another notebook with USB2 passed the USB-device to the virtual machine but the connection is not very stable.

The connection via xds100v2 seems to be a very fragile issue as I also got flash abortions with a direct connection.

  • I have the same problem.  HP notebook running Win7.  VMware Player Version 3.1.2  Ubuntu 12.4 LTS CCS 5.3.  Also I am confused by documentation that says XDS100V2 does not work well(?) in this configuration.  What does that mean?

Please provide a link to this document. The only issue I can think of is an issue with XDS100v2 on Linux where the speed is really bad.

    Thanks
