CSS Version: 5.3.0.00090 MSP-FET430 Win7 Fail Initializing emulator

Hi,

I had trouble to debug code in previous CCS build (not sure but should be Version: 5.3.0.00030). The problem was not initializing the debug session. It was appearing a window that I need to upgrade the FET-430UIF. When I unplugged and plugged the USB cable it was sometimes works proper but not all tries.  Then I upgraded the CCS hopping that will be ok.  

But now, I am getting the “Error initializing emulator: Could not set device Vcc” error window.

I tested it with MSP-EXP430F5528 board with external battery. But it still gives the same error. After getting the error, I try to get the firmware version of the FET from Fet-pro430 software and got the firmware version “0…” But, when I unplug and plug the cable, I could get the expected FW version.

FET-430UIF hardware is V1.4a and FW version is 3.02.05.004

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi,

    No one replied my message. It is a serious problem for me because the project development process stopped.

    I need any information, advice etc. to solve the problem.

    At least, I need to know reasons that cause  “Error initializing emulator: Could not set device Vcc” error.

    Hi Aly,

    have you tried not unplugging the device?  I ask because normally you should not be plugging and unplugging the FET during the update process.

    Is this your first attempt at programming that board?  Or was the board successfully used in the past?  Do you have another FET to try just in case?

    Does the free flash programmer from elprotronic give you any errors or can you flash the device with their software?

    Hi Lisa,

    Thanks for your reply. Yes, I’d tried not unplugging and got not completed upgrade over CCS. Then I tried elprotronic’s software. I had also problem with elprotronic’s software. Then I completely remove FET’s USB driver. Download and run the driver from http://processors.wiki.ti.com/images/a/a5/TUSBWINCDC_ALL.zip . Upgraded the FW with elprotronic’s software and run CSS. CCS also upgraded the FW again (without unplug) and I succeeded the debug session.

    Now, my first 10 debug attempts were perfect. But I am not sure everything is ok.

    Let me test it several times in several conditions. I will feedback to you.

    Hi Lisa,

    Sorry to reply late but I want to be sure what was happened. I had also not succeeded debug sessions after my last post. Then I tried to change the USB cable with a better quality one.

    Now, I can surely say that the USB cable is very important for FET430UIF communication.
