Stop mode debugging on AM3517 w/Linux using CCSv5

Dear all,

I'm trying to debug in stop mode on a custom board using CCSv5. I followed the steps found here (optionally this video can be followed as well) and I'm using a Spectrum Digital XDS510 USB plus debug emulator.

I'm able to scan the JTAG chain and my processors gets recognized but as soon as I launch the Debug, right after the symbols found in vmlinux I get the following error and I cannot understand why...

This is the error I get within CCS: "IcePick_C_0: Power Failure on Target CPU"

Can please anyone help me out with this issue?

Hi Ivan,

Are you using a startup GEL file with your target configuration?

Also another useful link is the CCSv5 advanced workshop. I covers Linux kernel stop mode debug on an AM3517;

Dear Ki,

I'm not using a GEL file for my target configuration thus the init fields in the target's configuration are empty. I looked at the slides you mentioned and it is pretty similar to what I'm doing... the PD PIN on my JTAG emulator is connected to 3V3, is this correct?

Dear Ki,

I'm now able to connect, I actually had a couple of problems:

1. I disabled hardware watchdog on the am3517 (user space application doesn't open the wdog device). After this no error appeared anymore...
2. I had to re-specify the vmlinux image. I was pointing to the one in arch/arm/boot/compressed, the correct one with debugging symbols is located within the kernel's root dir.
