CCS5.1.1 Menu Project -> Open/Close Project are disabled. Why?

Hello forum,

I use CCS5 for building/debugging projects. Everything was fine until today.

When I just started CCS5 and tried to close some projects, I've found no appropriate item in the pop-up menu,
and found both "Open" and "Close" items in the main Menu->Project are dimmed inactive (screenshot below).

What could be wrong, why the project open/close menu controls went inactive?

The project is selected in the Project explorer, the Eclipse Perspective is "C/C++", I can open/edit files, compile/run projects.

But cannot close the project or reopen previously closed one.

The problem is really weird, Google returns millions hits on such an Eclipse behaviour.

Unfortunally I've found nothing helpful to solve my case.

Please help.

  • I guess first step will be updating to most recent stable release. CCSv5.3

  • Hi,

A couple things.  First I would like to add and reenforce moving to the latest version (with a fresh installation) would be a very good idea.    It is odd both are greyed.  Basically the behaviour should be that whatever state the project is not in, should be selectable.  In other words, if a project is open you should see a "close project" option, if a project is closed you should see an "open project" option.  This is what I see in v5.3.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

I must admit that I didn't ask of what shall I do, I asked *WHY* is it so?

Then, if you would say "this is a known bug", your message would not be an off-topic message.

Moreover, currently I know a work around better then "try update and find out that this wouldn't help".

The traces of the Eclipse problem I noticed are being reported gradually from year 2002.

    Regards,

  • I don't get it.

Who cares if issue is not present in recent release? Why care at all?

    Bugs happen?

Thank you Lisa for your time. It always a value to know what other people see on their screens. As I initially noticed, I always had seen same in my CCS5.1.

    Then the problem arrived.

Because a source of trouble is still unknown, it is likely sometime you will happen to face this problem with CCS5.3, or later.

As I said I know a workaround. This is it:

(menu) Help -> Search "Project Explorer view"

In the page "Project Explorer view" found, click on the link  "Window>Show View > Other... > General > Project Explorer"

This added (in my case) a Navigator view which looks the same as Project explorer (see picture).

Now in both - Project Explorer" an the "Navigator" just added - Open project and Close Project both work as expected.

    CCS5.1.1 is still there.

I surely do upgrades but not sooner than this is really useful.

Thanks Lisa, let me consider your "I do not know why"  being the best answer to my "why".
