How do I install MSP430 CGT 4.1.2 and older in CCSv5.4?

In a fresh installation of CCS 5.4, I need to install older MSP compilers such as 4.1.0, 4.1.2, etc.

I noticed that 4.1.5 was installed by default, and it showed me an error indicating I can't install the old ones since the new one is already there.

I tried uninstalling 4.1.5 from the IDE. This allowed me to select the older compilers for installation. I tried 4.1.0 first.

There was visual progress of an installation, including a restart of CCS.

After I restarted, I notice that C:\ti\ccsv5\tools\compiler\msp430_4.1.5 is still present on my disk, and the 4.1.0 compiler wasn't installed.

How do I install the old MSP compilers from ccs 5.4??

If I need to install manually outside of CCS, I need to get a copy of all the 4.X versions of MSP CGT.

Thanks,

Chris Norris

  • Hi Chris,

is there a specific reason you need these older versions?

How have you been attempting the installation?   You should be able to have multiple versions in parallel and in fact there is a lab we run where you do just that.

The best way is if you go to Window->Preferences->Code Composer Studio->BUild->code generation tools

This is the best place to add and manage your compiler versions.

    Please keep us informed.

  • Hi Lisa,

The old versions are needed to perform maintenance on medical products.  When I build an old version of the product from our source control, I need to use the compiler specified in the CCS project to get a 100% identical binary.

I went to Window->Preferences->Code Composer Studio->BUild->code generation tools.  I don't see a way to obtain a compiler using this method.  All I see for MSP430 is the 4.1.5:

I don't see a way to obtain new compilers to add in the Preferences dialog, so I tried the Install dialog again.

Before I tried the dialog, I manually deleted msp430_4.1.5 from C:\ti\ccsv5\tools\compiler

I made another attempt to install a compiler.  This time I selected 4.1.1:

I noticed the installation files appeared in the file system, then CCS prompted me to restart:

After the restart, CCS gave this error message and did not run the install:

Every time I try to start CCS, I get the same error as above.  I could only get CCS to restart after manually deleting everything from the C:\ti\ccsv5\eclipse\downloads folder.

If I can get far enough to collect the CGT installers that appear in C:\ti\ccsv5\eclipse\downloads , then I can complete the process manually.  For my current project, I need 4.1.1, 4.1.2, and 4.1.3, so I'll try this manual process for a workaround.

I would definitely prefer doing these installs through the IDE.

    Thanks,

    Chris Norris

  • Actually, the installer that appeared in C:\ti\ccsv5\eclipse\downloads\ti_cgt_msp430_4.1.1_setup_win32.exe is corrupt.

When I try launching this installer, I get the error:

So it looks like I can't install using a manual process either.  Can someone from TI describe a working method to install 4.1.1, 4.1.2, and 4.1.3 in a fresh installation of CCS 5.4 that already has 4.1.5?

    Thanks,

    Chris Norris

  • Hi Chris,

ok, understood.  Before I send you anything please select the add button and add a path to the other compilers from you other isntallations and try that.   Windows->preferences->code composer studio->build->code generation tools has an add button ...

Please let us know how that goes.  If that does not pick up other versions (I can verify I have 4 compiler versions installed by this method) contact me offline and I will help ... however note if you have these versions on your pc already my sending you them will only do the same thing ... add them to your pc.  You can contact me offline via a friend or conversation request.

Failing that I am wondering if an antivirus program or permissions issues might be involved here.  We have seen at least one case where an antivirus thought a compiler was bad a removed it.

    Please keep us informed.

    Lisa
