OMAL-l137 EVM and free licence under CCS5.4

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OMAP-L137

Hi Ti.

Is there a limitation that prevent me from using the OMAP-l137EVM onboard Jtag onboard Emulator, running a free or 90 days CCS5.4 license?

In the Target Configuration:

If I select the onboard  "Spectrum Digital DSK-EVM PLUS onboard USB Emulator"  there is only one board type available, the EVMDMR45X, trying to make the "board" myself by selecting a ARM9 and the C674X from the CPU library and add the .gel file from  ccsv5\ccs_base\emulation\boards\evmomapl137\gel\evmomapl137_dsp.gel or browsing for a board all ends blind.T

The test under target configuration says :

[Start]

Execute the command:

%ccs_base%/emulation/drivers/sdjtag.exe -f %boarddatafile% -v -X reset -X scantest

[Result]

** BoardFilePath: C:\Users\CLAUSR~1\AppData\Local\.TI\693494126\0\0\BrdDat\testBoard.dat
** Resetting Emulator
 -- Emulator is Reset
** Emulator Scan Test
-- Found JTAG IR Length of 6
-- Found 1 device(s) in the scan chain

[End]

Have also tried with a 90 days license with the same problems.

Have also tried on two machines, one win7 and one XP.

Have tried to build Target configuration using "Spectrum Digital SDS510USB with same results.

It looks like some thing is missing in the library, one installation had all option selected in the installation the last only what I expected to need. Same experience!!

CCs5.3 or 5.4 make no difference.

The target board is a OMAP-L137EVM from Spectrum digital rev "I".

  • Claus,

It sounds like you are missing some components because there should be an OMAP L137 option for you for the connection type you are selecting. I assume you did a custom install. perhaps you unchecked the option for OMAP?

    Thanks

    ki

  • Hi Ki.

Thanks for your answer. If you read my post, you can see that one of the installations where full, with all components checked, and still no OMAP-L137, the other installation is only OMAP selected and no support for OMAP-l137.

I am sure if you try it out on a empty machine, you will expire the same,  that no OMAP-l137 board will be available.

I think that the installation is missing some file for this board/DSP.

    Claus.

  • Brose to this directory:

    <CCS INSTALL DIR>\ccsv5\ccs_base\common\targetdb\boards

Do you see a file called 'evmomapl137.xml'? I see it in my install. If you do not, then your installation is indeed missing some files. Re-run the installer and make sure you install the missing components

    Thanks

    ki

  • Yes I have a file EVMOMAP137, and I can browse to get it in my window "add component - Boards", if I select it I get a error missing file OMAP137.XML included by EVMOMAPL137, the path to it is C:\ti\ccsv5\ccs_base\common\targetdb\boards\OMAPL137.XML, and that file can't be found in the CCS5.4 library on any of the installations full or specific OMAP.

    Claus.

  • Claus,

(just passing by... I also have no idea on what is going on with the installation in your systems...)

However, since you mentioned you don't have the OMAPL137.XML file, could you download the OMAP Device support file from here, follow the installation instructions to add this support to one of your installs of CCS and see if this works?

Similarly to Ki, I also have a OMAPL137 device, EVM, etc. installed without trouble in my v5.4 (check attached).

Ultimately you could try to search for errors in the installer log file (or attach it here and see if we can spot anything), but it surely seems strange... To find this file, simply go to menu Help --> CCS Support and one of the files will be shown there.

    Regards,

    Rafael

  • OK , if you take a look at the OMAP support file, in the library, there is no support for OMAPL137EVM board, the file don't exist !!!

    Claus.

  • Claus,

As you mentioned above that the OMAPL137.xml file was missing, the Device support package installs it. The EVMOMAPL137.xml file is installed by the Spectrum Digital support package (as this board is manufactured by them).

In other words, this is expected.

    Regards,

    Rafael

  • I have already addressed my problem to Spectrumdigital, and there answer was, that TI is responsible for the install package for the CCS5.x so it should be TI problem. I feel some kind locked. SpectrumDigital don't look to support CCS5.4 and TI don't support SpectrumDigital OMAP-l137EVM board. Ti don't support old versions of CCS and SpectrumDigital looks like running on CCS3.3. What would you expect me to do? Select a different DSP from another brand?

Wee have purchased the OMAP-l137 EVM board and a CCS5.x user license but the ting can't work together. The CCS5.x also makes problems because it is ordered from a different machine then it is going to be installed on and the 72 hours active time has expired, have not used much time on this issue because of the OMAP - SpectrumDigital problem that in my mind have higher priority right now.

What about supplying me with the library form one of yours machine, now that you have the board supported.

If this forum supported smiley, I would have added several angry ones.

    Claus.

  • Claus,

Sorry, I got confused among the several Device Support packages and should have told you to download and install the C6-Integra instead of the OMAP. This should get you going w.r.t. your high priority issue, since you reported before the device file <OMAPL137.xml> is missing from your install. The device support package will place this device file into the directory <CCS_INSTALL_DIR>/ccsv5/ccs_base/common/targetdb/devices

My mention of "Spectrum Digital support package" is because the configuration file for your board (evmomapl137.xml) is provided by them but integrated by us into the CCSv5 installer.

    I apologize for the confusion.

    Rafael

  • Claus,

You said you did a full install of all components selected. If that is the case, then you have a bad install because the files for L137 should be there. You are in fact missing a lot of files it seems since you said only EVMDMR45X showed up for the SD PLUS onboard connection selection. The best thing to do, and I know it is painful, is to completely uninstall your existing 5.4 install (and delete any left over files) and reinstall 5.4 again, making sure at minimum the 'OMAP' and 'C6x DSP + ARM' options are selected (or select everything if you wish).

Don't worry about this, you have another 87 days left for the eval and we can extend this for you if need be.

    ki

  • Thanks Rafael.

That was the magic word, wonder why this isn't included in the full CCs5.4 installation? Little confusing that OMAP - C6-Integra/OMAP selection in the library.

Now I have like CCS3.3 access to the board and can run the example make breakpoints.

Now the other problem with the CCS5.3 license how to solve that, to the project there is purchased a full CCS5.x license but from a different machine then is is supposed to work on and the 72 hours expire time are out.
