  • Hi Michael,

the update process has never been smooth.  I recommend a full fresh installation of v5.4 into a new directory clearing the old logs and install.  if you still don't have the mspware version you need, we will continue.  Either way, please keep us informed.

    Best Regards,

    Lisa

  • Okay, uninstalled CCS, deleted the C:|ti directory and the InstallJammer directory

    Disabled my antivirus

Reinstalled v5.4.00019, clicked "check for updates"

    In the list was MSP430Ware

For the last two hours I have been staring at this screen

  • Hi Michael,

is there something blocking you from using the version packed into v5.4?  Could you send the install logs?  (installjammer registry directory - both ccs and msp430 folders - the folder may be hidden and should  be in program files or program files(x86))

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Well, I went and found the actual .exe for the MSP430Ware install in eclipse/downloads. I copied it out, then ran it from another location. It has been going rather (almost pitifully) slow. 9 hours have passed and this is what I have so far. Once this install does finish, which it hopefully will, eventually, I will zip up the directories you asked for and send them.

  • Okay, 10 and a half hours later, the update finished installing. Attached are the requested log files.

  • Hi Michael,

from a first glance, nothing is standing out from your logs which seem to show successful installs.    Are you able to use mspware now?  Was there a specific reason you don't use the version included in v5.4?

    Best Regards,
    lisa

  • "Was there a specific reason you don't use the version included in v5.4?"

No. it simply gives me a feeling of security (or insecurity) on how the things you would expect to function properly (updates being put out in the field for instance) do or do not carry through. As a firmware developer myself, I know how people react when little "oopsies" suddenly pop up. Their confidence practically vanishes. If this update problem, which TI has been aware of for some time now, goes wrong, it does not help to raise my confidence level which feeds off to the confidence level of my customers.

I recommend TI products because they have excellent engineering and they are a quality product. Things like this make that recommendation a bit stressed.

  • Hi Michael,

first let me just say that I completely understand.    I agree and wish our tools would update smoother.   However, we are continually working on correcting/improving things and also that should not affect reliable development.

Is there a specific error or item you need addressed?   Believe me the update and install process is a hot topic for us which are actively working on.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • No, that is all. I'm just complaining and providing some (hopefully useful) feedback. I've seen bigger problems that went unnoticed before. If you folks are aware/working on it, that's fine. For the sake of discussion, it is TI's commitment to open source that keeps me on board. I know it's a huge effort, and I believe it pays off.

  • Hi Michael,

ok, no problem and thanks for the feedback.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa
