CCS 5.4 new user questions

I should be receiving a development board in the mail soon, but in preparation I have been reading up and watching videos on CCS, but still have a few questions.

Since CCS 5 uses Eclipse, what happens if I already have Eclipse installed for a different project (an android app)?  Can I have 2 versions of Eclipse running in different folders on windows 7 (worried about possible registry issues)?  Or would CCS use the version of eclipse that is already installed (worried about version mis-match)?  I assume someone has checked this potential source of error and has a good solution.

Also, my board is coming with an xds100v2 emulator.  I understand I can just download the latest version of CCS and use the free licensing option with this emulator.  How exactly is that accomplished?  Does the emulator come with a registration number that I need to enter into CCS?  I just don't want have the 90 day clock run out on me in the middle of my development project, and then have to stop to sort this out.

And lastly, I see a lot of problems installing CCS 5.4 here in the forum.  How prevalent are these issues?  Would it be wise for me as a new user to install an older version until the 5.4 is a little more stable?

Thanks for the help.

Dave

  • Hi Dave,

I hope this answers your questions!  Please let us know

    - ccs comes packaged with an eclipse version and you will be fine if you use a different directory.   So my strong recommendation - install ccs with the full installer, fully unzipping and installing to a simple directory like c:/ti or c:/myccs with antivirus disabled

    - yes the xds100 allows full free ccs use.  When you run ccs for the first time it will ask about the license type ... select "free limited license"   the limitation is the hardware in this case

    - I certainly hope v5.4 is stable enough for your needs!

All the best, please keep us informed, and happy to see your eagerness to learn and search through our ccs materials.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa
