CCSv5 device choosing

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OMAP-L137, TMS320C6747, TMDSOSKL137

Hi,

I am  using OMAP L137 with ARM9 and DSP. I want to know which family and variant should I choose when I create a new project.

Thanks!

Zhe

  • Hi Zhe,

    Project->New ccs project

    Family:  ARM

    Variant : omap L1x

Please give that a try and keep us informed.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Hi Lisa,

Thank you for the reply. I tried a sample sine wave example and it work well in ccs debug mode.

Now I am trying to make it work in the actual OMAP-L137 board. But I don't find any instruction in the user guide. I notice that there are  a .obj and .o file that  in the output debug folder. Should I just use these two files?

    Thank you!

    Zhe

  • Hi Zhe,

what do you mean "make it work on the actual board"?  Debug downloads the code to the board and starts a debug session ... from what you write I assume you have already been this far?

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Hi Lisa,

"Debug downloads the code to the board and starts a debug session". Is this means I should connect the board to the PC, load the code to the board and debug it?

If so, then I have done things wrong. And how to connect the board to the PC?

    Thank you!

    Zhe

  • Hi Zhe,

if you want to learn more I suggest the omap forum.    Normally yes, you would connect the board using an onboard or external emulator and write and debug code.  Starting with an example is always the best.  But if you have hardware connection and getting started question with your hardware, I would say the omap forum is a better place for those kinds of questions.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Hi Lisa,

I guess I didn't ask clearly. I have no problem with the hardware connection. I just want to know how to contact the board within ccs.

    Thank you,

    Zhe

  • Hi Zhe,

if you are able to debug you are connected to your board.

The configuration is done in the target configuration file which will be a ccxml file associated with your project.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Hi Lisa,

Which connection should I choose in the .ccxml file?

    Thank you!

    Zhe

  • HI Zhe,

this depends on the emulator you have.  You need to select the appropriate emulator.  There are various emulators that are compatible with the L138.

    Lisa

  • Hi Lisa,

Its Zhe's teammate here. We don't really know anything about this stuff and I really appreciate your patience. We are using a free version of CCS and when we go into the target configuration window, we are unable to decide which connection to select. We have connected to each emulator/simulator, saved and tried to test the connection, but all of them give some or the other kind of error.

    Thank you!

  • Hi,

what hardware do you have?  Are you using a specific evm?  If so which one?  If not what emulator do you use?

In the ccxml you select according to the hardware you have.  There are many different emulators ... xds100, xds510, xds560, on board cards etc.  You need to select the one you have but I do not know what hardware you have.

    Lisa

  • Hi Lisa,

We are using the OMAP-L137/TMS320C6747 Floating-Point Starter Kit.

    Thank you!

  • Hi Zhe,

I would recommend following these links:

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Getting_Started_Guide_for_OMAP-L137

For the ccxml, if you have an evm, try a simple first example setting it up as in my screen capture.
