Emulator Issue After CCS Update

Hello,

I recently updated my CCS to 5.4 and accidently hit "no" to one of the blackhawk emulator installs.  Now, my blackhawk emulators won't work.  I can still see the emulator in the BH560 config utility but CCS doesn't find the emulator.  Is there an easy way to fix this without re-installing CCS?

Thanks,

John Demery

  • Hi John,

can you try rerunning the installer to the same directory, selecting "repair" and adding the support?  this should be the simplest way to update/correct things.

    Best regards,
    Lisa

  • Lisa,

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.  I do not see a "repair" option when running the installer again.  It just looks like it is re-installing the same way as before but I do not get the pop up options asking me if it is ok to install the blackhawk necessities, thus leaving it still not working.

    Sincerely,

    John Demery

  • Hi John,

When doing the update, did you hit "no" to one of the Windows device driver install dialogs?  if so, you should verify that the emulator enumerates with Windows (i.e. in the Device Manager).  However, I assume this is OK because you stated that the BH560v2Config utility can find the emulator.

If that is the case and the emulator enumerates ok, I need to ask for more information about "CCS doesn't find the emulator".  Does CCS give you an error?  What is the error?

    Thanks, Andrew

  • Andrew:

That is exactly what happened.  I was typing when it popped up and whatever I typed apparently managed to select "no".  I tried clean installing CCS 5.4 three times (the first two attempts I ran the uninstall exe beforehand, the last attempt I simply deleted the ccsv5 folder).  None of these worked either.  When looking at blackhawk with device manager, it could not locate the drivers.  I browsed for the drivers and pointed the menu to the location where it is installed on a coworkers computer.  That did not work either (the file was missing).  So then I copied the file from a flashdrive into the appropriate directory and tried again with no luck.

Ultimately I had to uninstall CCS again and install 5.3 to get everything working.

    Sincerely,

    John Demery

  • John,

I am glad you have it working, but not about the path it took to get there.

I suspect that answering "no" caused the portion of the device driver install that tells Windows where the files are located to abort.  Then, when you connected the emulator, it could not automatically find the drivers.  For future reference, all the Blackhawk files for CCS and device drivers are installed on the PC prior to those driver dialogs.  The device drivers are placed in folder path <Program Files>\blackhawk\emulation\drivers.  Unless something else happened during the update that we are not aware of, you should not have had to re-install CCS.  The only strange part is that Bh560v2Config utility would not find the emulator without the device drivers being installed.

Anyway, I am glad things are working again.
