CCS V4.2.5 will not install

I have tried 3 times to download and install CCS V4.2.5 onto my Win7 machine, but I continue to get errors. Here is the error log.

Is there another site for this? What should I do?

Thanks,

  • Hi Pat,

is there a reason you don't use the latest version (v5.4)?   would you be able to send the installation logs?  These are in a folder (possibly a hidden folder) called installjammer registry and found in program files or program files(x86).

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Hi Lisa,

So far, v4.24 is the only version that I have gotten to work on my Win7 machine, and that took considerable time to get up and running with my app. However, it has a problem with continually requiring a computer restart after downloading my app using my XDS560V2 STM. So, I thought I should upgrade to V4.2.5 which is what I used on my old XP, thinking it might work better.

Here is the error screen. The hangup always occurs at this point, it seems. I'm not clear as to what  log, other than the one I just sent, you are referring to or where it is located.

I have tried V5.4, but it has different errors, which I have not been able to figure out why they appear. When I try to compile my app, I get the error "java.language.null.pointer.exception" in CDT Builder.

My application deals with the PLC firmware and I suspect this may need an upgrade to work with CCSV5.x. I received newer application s/w, but it appears to be only an upgrade from DSP/BIOS to SYS/BIOS, which would require changing my application (which is now working fine) and I am resistant to doing that. There was no explanation as to what the change incurred. I only deduced from comparing the old vs new example app code. I have no idea if this is part of the problem or not. I have no objection to using V5.4 and would prefer to do so, if I can get it to run. FYI, I have never been able to get any V5.x to run on my Win7 machine. After repeated attempts at re-downloading, reinstalling, reupgrading, etc., I finally gave up and continued development with my WinXP. My Win XP finally bit the dust and I have been forced to move to the Win7 machine. This is the fourth day in my attempt to convert to SOMETHING.

    Thanks,

    Pat

  • Hi Pat,

    a few comments

    - did you try to upgrade to v4.2.5?  Or did you install it separately?   One option if not already might be to try the full v4.2.5 installer.  I may be able to send this to you offline.

    - re v5.4 ... there are only a handful of known issues, most of which have work arounds.  (antivirus, old sse2 processors, some nvidia graphics cards, shared/multiple drives).    If you would like to try this again let us know.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Apologies, I failed to read the rest of your email. Here is a zip of the logs for that install:

    Thanks,

  • When I go to the download site, it shows V4.2.5 as a Patch. After downloading it however, and trying to install it in the same directory as 4.2.4, it erros saying it cannot reside there. So I set up a seperate directory and assumed it was a full download. At any rate it does not appear to work. I would appreciate the email link. I don't understand why this is not a public access product.

I would most definitely like to pursue upgrading to V5.4 assuming that my app will still run on it. As I have not been able to compile with that version, I really can't say. I am using a Gateway NV59C laptop using Intel HD graphics. Is that an issue?

    Thanks,

    Pat

  • Hi Pat,

the patch will not work.  You need the full v4.2.5 installer.    Let me see about setting that up for you offline.  Your graphics card should not be a problem . ... if you try fresh and send us the installation logs that would help us debug the v5.4 install.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Lisa,

    6082.V5_4 PLC_COMMON_ROOT error.docx

This a screen shot of perhaps the problem. Looking at my compile log, it appears that none of my source files actually got loaded. Shown is a typical example involving file ADC_task.c. It shows the path to be /PLC_COMMON_ROOT/.

Also, note that PLC_COMMON_ROOT is the project name selected. This is a macro name for the path that was used on the XP's CCSV4.2.5. Somehow, this macro name was substituted for the proper project name. On the WinXP startup menu (this machine will only now run in Safe Mode - ever tried running CCS in Safe Mode? I don't recommend it):

    6253.good startup menu for CCS4_2_5.doc

This macro has been removed from the build on the Win7 machine for some reason. I have not been able to reinstate it. What is the proper procedure for doing so? All of my source and header files are not now recognized. I actually, on the CCS4.2.4 on the Win7, went through each file, deleting it and relinking and reassigning all the header and library folders. It appears that I will have to do this for the V5.4 as well unless I can get the macro reinstated.

The other issue that appears in the startup menu is that there are additional bogus selections for the proper project file. This is true on both the V4.2.5 on the WinXP as well as on the V5.4 on the Win7. Where did these come from? Why are they there? How is this selection determined by Eclipse / CCS. I am not a Linux developer nor an Eclipse user until this point, which was forced by TI's choice to go with Eclipse.

Can you help explain / clear up this confusion?

    Thanks,

    Pat

  • Hi Pat,

I think it is best to focus on one thing at a time.   Are you still having problems with installing ccs?    Again I should be able to see about sending v4.2.5 offline or helping get v5.4 installed.  Please just confirm.

Regarding the issues you see with some of the include paths and options.  This actually does not surprise me for a few reasons

    - there are usually corrections needed when moving projects around

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Include_paths_and_options

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Project_Sharing

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Portable_Projects

    - it is not usually a good idea to use the program files directory .... especially in win 7.    I notice your problem path resolves here and this is not necessarily overly surprising.

    - in ccsv5 we don't use the macros you reference like in v4 anymore

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • Yes, I do need the link to CCS4.2.5.

  • Hi Pat,

glad we were able to get you running again offline.

    Best Regards,

    Lisa
