arm_5.0.5 compiler installation problem

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OMAPL138

I need to update to the ARM 5.x compiler to get support for packed structs to use the Starterware Ethernet code for OMAPL138. From CCS I was unable to update just the ARM compiler because of dependency errors so I did a general update of everything. I am unable to select the new compiler version from CCS (5.1.1.00031) Project>Properties>Resource>General> Compiler version only shows the old 4.x versions. If I try to browse to the new version at either C:\ti\ccsv5\tools\compiler\arm_5.0.5 or the \bin folder I get an error "no build-tools selected! please select a directory that contains the build tools for the ARM device family".

I have tried SetupInCCSnRegistry.exe in the compiler folder but no effect.

In Help>about CCS>Installation details>Installed S/W I can see 5.0.5 ARM compiler listed "  ARM Compiler Tools 5.0.5 com.ti.cgt.tms470.5.0.win32.feature.group Texas Instruments"

Please help

  • Hi Keith,

have you double checked permissions and antivirus issues?   are you using the same user account?

Would you be willing to try ccs v5.4?

    Best regards,

    Lisa

  • Lisa,

I am on a Win XP PC with administrator rights.

This is a company networked PC so I cannot disable antivirus S/W.

What do you mean by the same user a/c?

I had assumed that by updating everything I would have the latest CCS. The way you ask the question about it are there some problems with 5.4? I am looking for a stable tool set which I can then stick with for the whole of my new product development in order to avoid just these types of issues which unfortunately seem to be very common.

How do I update to CCS 5.4 if this is what you would recommend?

    Thanks.

  • Hi Keith,

I would remove your 5.1.1 and go with a fresh installation of v5.4.   what has been problematic is the update paths unfortunately.   that would likely leave you in the best state.

    Please keep us informed.

    Best Regards,

    Lisa

  • Lisa,

After spending the whole day I have finally managed to get the Starterware enet_echo_armv5 example running with CCS5.4. One of the main problems I had was that I selected TI v5.0.4 compiler in the general properties settings as I assumed this is what I would need to do to use the v5 compiler. This caused a null pointer exception when I tried to build and I could not change back to the default v4.6.4 compiler. I eventually deleted the project and re-imported it which fixed that problem but then I had lots of problems with include and link paths which I had to manually edit.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Keith,

thanks for the update.  Very happy to hear you managed to get past the issue.

    All the best with development.

    Best Regards,

    Lisa
