Connection host -> xds560 problem

I moved CCS v3.3 from windows XP to windows7/virtual XP.

All is OK excluding emulator xds560r.

Starting CCS I get message "Initialization error".

Comparing xds drivers in old and new computers I see difference in "General" window in property "Location:"

In new computer it is "Unknown".

In "Details" window many properties are different too.

I used the same installation process in both cases.

SpectrumDigital drivers version is v.30329A

Help me please.

  • Hi,

Although we did some limited evaluation on CCS operating in virtual machines, neither we nor the emulator manufacturers support and perform extensive verification on this, therefore it is possible you will not be able to make the XDS560R emulator work in this environment.

If this system is used for maintenance of older projects, I strongly suggest getting an older PC running Windows XP natively (I do this to keep my old copies of CCS since release 2.2).

    I apologize for the inconvenience,

    Rafael

  • Hi, Rafael

    Thank you for replay.

My real problem is my old computer is almost died. I get "blue screen" many times a day.

So I have to replace it in any case.

I am not sure XDS560r will work in virtual XP.

But here is problem of windows or computer. It can't recognize driver properly.

It can't or read or apply driver's data file properly.

Maybe it is some windows settings have to be changed.

I don't know what is a real difference between actual and virtual XP machine.

Have you experience with such things?

I read (don't remember where) that problem can be with "class ..." parameters.

All other stuff is perfect. I can maintain and compile projects.

    Mark.

  • Mark,

I think I get what is the issue you are having now. In order to connect to any piece of hardware using a Virtual Machine, you need two device drivers: one installed in the host operating system (Windows 7 in your case) and another installed in the guest operating system (Windows XP).

In the specific case of the XDS560R, it was discontinued by Spectrum Digital a few years ago and the device drivers will have to be installed in two different ways:

    - Windows XP device drivers for CCSv3.3 are available from Spectrum Digital's support page. Since you already have CCS installed in the Windows XP, that is straightforward.

    - For Windows 7 you will have to install either CCSv3.3 (plus the device drivers above) or CCSv4.1.2 (the latest version that includes XDS560R device drivers). The safer path is to install CCSv4.1.2, as the installation of CCSv3.3 on Windows 7 is somewhat complicated.

I hope I got the problem you are having, but feel free to get back with any missing details, ok?

    Regards,

    Rafael

  • Thank you for help.

I will try it after holidays.

I have installed CCSv3.3 in Windows7. It wasn't easy you are right.

But I got useful information in this forum how to do it.

My problem was I tried to install and use 64bit drivers and failed.

I have a question. What drivers I should install in Windows7 the same as in Windows XP(32bit) or 64bit?

As I understand I don't need installed CCS to install drivers. I need directories with drivers on right place only.

If I am right it is possible to go through SSCv3.3 installation process in Windows7 ignoring "errors".

So it can be the way to keep XDS560r alive If I will be lucky.

  • The first. Installing XDS560r drivers on mother Windows7 machine doesn't resolve problem.

XDS560r is unreachable from vichual WindowsXT machine.

But thetre is a good side. It works in Windos7.

    I reinstalled CCSv3.3 above installed one already, installed 64bit drivers(SpectruDig v30329A),

all updates from TI (bios_5_41_10_36, SR11_81_6_2) and it is OK now.

Before installing CCSv3,3 be shure PERL is installed on your computer. I use PERL 10 and didn't check PERL 12 or higher.

    XDS560r is still alive!

P.S. If you start with new computer as I am and use in DSP project some programs created in MS studio 8 -:- 12 install redesribution packets before calling them.

  • Mark,

Thanks for reporting back your findings. This will surely help people if they have the same question in the future.

Also, nice remark about the MS redistributables package. Sometimes this causes trouble for us when installing CCS in a shiny new PC (it locks up, can't find it, and so on).

BTW, Perl with CCSv3.3 is only necessary if you do scripting. Otherwise you can get by without it.

    Cheers,
