Compiler Revision History

Hello,

Where can I find the Compiler revision history / errata for the compilers that are included in CCS?  Right now, we are using CCS V5.2.1 which includes ARM Compiler 4.9.5.  I would like to review the changes made and see outstanding issues for the newer versions of the compiler.

Thanks, Charlie Johnston

  • Charlie,

Every compiler release includes docs that detail the list of defects fixed as well as new features in that release. For example, in CCS 5.2.1, if you go to the folder \ccsv5\tools\compiler\tms470_4.9.5 within the CCS installation, there will be a DefectHistory.txt file and README.txt file.

  • Hi AartiG,

The readme.txt 1.4) points to https://cqweb.ext.ti.com/pages/SDO-Web.html.  My TI account used for this forum was not accepted and I could not create a ClearQuest account.

The readme.txt 1.2) points to http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php?title=Category:CGT, then to 'Compiler Documentation Errata'.  This is for the compiler documentation only and does not apply to the compiler itself.

The same page has a 'Compiler Defects Database' link which leads back to the link in 1.4) above.  It appears to log me in as read only to view the defects.  But it only has ARM compiler Defect History Lists for versions up to 4.9.x.

Are the DefectHistory.txt files included with the updates available without installing the upgrade?  I know I can install more than one concurrent version, but it's a matter of admin rights and getting IT involved.

    Thanks, Charlie

Unfortuately no, not that I am aware of.
You can use the Clearquest database to query one or more particular defects, but to get the list of fixed and known defects in a particular release the DefectHistory.txt would be the best place to look and for that you would need to install the toolset.

  • Is there a place on the Compiler Wiki that TI could post these?  After we release our DO178B software, we have to monitor the errata of the compiler and the the MCU for many years.  All new problems uncovered have to be addressed as to the impact on our code.  We also have strict company policies about installing software.  Installing a software upgrade just to extract a text file will be a difficult argument.

    Thanks, Charlie Johnston

  • We post our DSP compiler toolsets (along with release notes and defect histories) for free download here. However the ARM compiler toolset is one that is not available for free download. Hence I doubt we would be able to post the defect history or release notes on a public site. The suggested method for obtaining ARM compiler updates is via the CCS update manager. However, if you have access to a TI sales rep or FAE they would be able to access this information and provide it to you.
