Can Not Connect EVM6670LE using XDS560V2 Emulator

Hi... I really need help regarding XDS560V2 connection

The connection was good at afternoon and I can use the XDS560V2 to connect and debug (Blackhawk USB Mezzanine) using CCS 5.3.0 (TMDSEVM6670LE). But, last night, I cannot connect completely to the board. The CCS 5.3.0 shown this message bellow:

Error initializing emulator:
(Error -2083 @ 0x0)
Unable to communicate with the emulator. Confirm emulator configuration and connections, reset the emulator, and retry the operation.
(Emulation package 5.0.872.0)

I opened up my device manager and I could't see any Blackhawk USB Mezzanine Device being connected there. I tried in the other USB Ports and other computer but returned no result.  I searched for the solution in this forum and followed all of the instruction that I thought it could help me but couldn't solve my problem. So I decided to remove the XDS560V2 and I used the XDS100V1 instead. It was good and I could connect and debug my EVM.

So what is happening to my XDS560V2 and is there any solution to solve this problem? I really need the XDS560V2 as it can speed up my debugging process. Thank you for your help.

  • Hi,

Per your description and pictures I suspect the XDS560v2 Mezzanine card is either not properly powered or was damaged, as no LEDs are lit on the card (check a picture of a working setup here). Double check the small .1'' 8-pin header that powers the mezzanine - maybe a pin was broken or bent.

In this case you would need to contact the company you purchased the board on what is the most suitable procedure to repair or return the board. If you purchased at the TI estore, check the return policy at their FAQ

    Hope this helps,

    Rafael

Alright... I've checked the power connector. From top to bottom it has 0V, 3.3V, 0.68V, and 5V. The Da Vinci IC is a bit warm. The USB Female Plug on the board has power voltage 5V and 0V (I couldn't check the data because I am afraid it can make damage).

So there is nothing I can do? (Like re-flashing it, reset it, or something else?). I am just curious why this can happen suddenly.

  • Hi,

According to section 3.2.1 of the board's TRM (download here), the voltages seem good (I get the similar voltages on my C6678 EVM), therefore the issue must be on the mezzanine card itself.

Given the supply is fine and the mezzanine can't be recognized by Windows, I don't see a way to reflash it (all utilities require that at least the board is enumerated by the USB interface). I feel sorry for the trouble you are having, but unfortunately the symptoms indicate your mezzanine board failed and you can't do much more other than try to repair or return it.

Unfortunately due to the complexity of these boards, issues like these usually happen suddenly - sometimes with or without apparent reason.

    Regards,
