Takes lots of attempts to load code onto Launchpad and debug

Hello,

I am running the latest version of CCS.

My problem is I am simply trying to load some code onto my MSP430. And it will load on from debug fine.... sometimes.

Sometimes it works well, loads through and the code works. Other times it will takes 10 or 20 attempts of me hitting debug and then reseting the board or changing usb ports (which i think these things do nothing i just have no idea what's happening).

It goes to the Confirguring the debugger,

Then times out and says it cant find it.

Any ideas?

Hi Mitchell,

This sounds like a usb driver issue. Which OS and bit are you using?

Thanks for a quick reply!

I am using windows 8 and by bit what exactly do you mean?

I thought it may have been something from the drivers perhaps so i did a re install of CCS because the drivers came with that

So re-installation didn't work. Ok, is it a custom board or a launchpad?

Nope, reinstall didn't help. its a stock MSP430G2553. Just opened out of the box and I have two and get the same issues on both boards.

It says it can't find the COM port but on my device manager it is definitely there

Not too sure where to go

Just one task then....

Before blaming anyone; can you please check it on another PC?

HI Mitchell,

to add to Gautams good advice.

- note that at the moment Win 8 is not officially support, even thought many are using it without issue

- you may want to try another cable/usb port. I have experienced both causing a problem. In fact I have seen a pc where my launchpad could be used on all but one usb port for some odd reason

- are you continuously clicking? Or do you wait after trying to launch to see the outcome first?
