CCS V5 - Dual Installation

Good day,

I have been using CCS V5.4 for developing using the MSP430 devices, no problems here, however I would now like start using the C2000 (Piccolo series).

For the MSP430 work I am making use of the "Code Limited" license version, which won't allow me to use the C2000 series.

Also if i install CCS V5.4 for the C2000 series then the MSP430 series is not available.

Must I install 2 versions of CCS V5.4, one for each series (in a different location)?

Will this work?

Or what is the best solution, without having to purchase a license?

I haven't tried the the dual installation because I am busy with critical development using the MSP430 series, and can't afford to lose this working setup.

Hi Michael,

I don't know why you're facing this problem. I'm using CCS for C2000 series "Licensed" version. At the same time I'm also able to build MSP430 based projects.

Hello!

Does the CCS installer not offer to choose the simultaneous support for the several necessary devices from a set of?

Hi Gautam,

At the end of the CCS installation the only device choice was at the stage when the "License Type" had to be selected. When selecting the "Free Code Limited" option, it only includes the MSP430 core devices.

After installation I tried to import a "C2000" project, the error code description is that there is no compiler available.

Also under target device selection the C2000 series is not available.

Hi Igor,

The only "device selection option" (that I saw) was when the one has to chose a "License Type", and when choosing the "Free Code Limited" option, this applies only to the MSP430 series and excludes any others.

Here's the screenshot of how I'm using: C2000 free license that says "Licensed". The current highlighted project is MSP430F5152 based.

Hi Gautam,

Thank you for that info.

I'm busy installing CCS V5.4.xxx on another PC and I will select the "Bundle License (Free Limited License)" this time and see what options there are available.

Hi Michael,

I would do the following

1 - install ccs with both msp and c2000 support

2- you can swap licenses using Help->Code Composer Studio Licensing Information->Upgrade tab and "Launch License Setup". to go between the free limited license an d code size limited. NOte in ccsv5 there is no longer a c2000 code size limited license. Since the free limited license is free to use with the xds100 and many of the evms.

Hi Lisa,

I did a new install of CCS V5 and added support for both devices, and yes i could swap between the licenses.

However this became messy if I happened to "debug' a project that the the incorrect license.

Better Solution: (for me)

I added another install of CCS V5 (in a different location) and set that installation for the "MSP430 Code Limited" license only and then set the first installation to the "Free " license type.

Now I can even run both CCS V5's at the same time, one using the "MSP430 Code Limited" license and the other using the "Free " license for my C28xxx devices.

So this really works out well for me.
