Cannot get two instances of CCS5.5 to run at the same time

Hi Brandy,

is this at all reproducable?   It seems it happens at different stages/situations?  However is there a common other program or task always running when this happens etc?

Unfortunately I just tried a bit but could not reproduce this instability.   And not being able to reproduce it makes this extrememely difficult to even start tracking.  Are you trying to share a workspace?  Note that each instance must have a different workspace.

Sorry for the delay, I don't work on Wednesdays.

Yes, every time I try to run two DSPs from my computer it happens.  Most frequently, when I hit 'go' on the second DSP when the other DSP is already running.  Occassionally it happens when I try to load the program into the second DSP.  Not much else is running and none of it is different then when I was using CCSv5.1.  Is there a log I can send you or would you like to do a desktop share?

I am using two separate workspaces.

Any ideas?  It is very inconvenient to have to use two computers.  Not to mention, soon I would have to run four computers so that I can control 4 EVMs.

What are the two debug sessions you are trying to start with you CCS install? Basically what emulator and device configuration are you trying to create two debug sessions for.

I am trying to connect to two C6678 EVMs with the emulators attached to them, BlackHawk XDS560v2.

I have configured two separate .ccxml, one using USBport0 and the USBport1. 

I think it must be a setting because it worked when I had CCSv5.1 but not after the new install of 5.5

Hi Brandy,

I setup as close an environment to you as I could (Basically 2 blackhawk 560v2 connected to two different C66x targets). I think I can reproduce the issue. I can always successfully start a debug session within my two different instances of CCS. I can connect to both targets fine. But when i execute one target, the other CCS instance hangs. I think this is similar to what you are seeing. I will file a bug for this.

My question is - do you need to have separate instances of CCS? Why not have one debug session with can communicate to both targets?

Yes, that is my scenario exactly. I wonder why it is especially since it worked prior to version 5.5.  I am glad you can fill in a bug.

I guess I just assumed two different instances for two emulators.  Can I control two emulators from one instance?

How would the console output work?  Which emulator would I see?  What about memory browser and variables?

I tried the links you sent and they work.  But the console output window displays both emulators and it is difficult to debug.  Can I get two different console windows, one for each emulator?

Not by emulator but you can have separate console windows for each CPU in the system (all CPU from both C6678s).

Unselect the "Use same console for the CIO of all CPUs" checkbox in the Debug Condifuration as shown in the link below:
