Starting TMDSEVM6657LS : unable to connect emulator

I just got TMDSEVM6657LS. I have installed CCS5.5.0.00077_win32. My OS is win 7 64-bit.
This is the first time for me to deal with dsp, but i am experienced with microcontroller and ARM processor (even though it is not TI product).

When I tried to debug "hello word" example, there was an error:
"IcePick_D: Error initializing emulator: (Error -2083 @ 0x0) Unable to communicate with the emulator. Confirm emulator configuration and connections, reset the emulator, and retry the operation. (Emulation package 5.1.232.0)"
And I connected the usb cable to XDS200, not the main board.

I am sure that the xds-200 driver is installed in my computer.
(I checked in Device Manager, there are 2 items : XDS2xx emulator and XDS2xx user).

What's wrong?

  • Hi,

Just confirming, are you seeing this in the Device Manager?

If so, then the issue may be between CCS and the device driver. Additional diagnostics can be obtained via the Test Connection button, which will be helpful to see if there are any additional problems on the communications. Information on this can be found in section 4.2 of the page below:

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Debugging_JTAG_Connectivity_Problems

    Regards,

    Rafael

  • Yes, those are shown in my Device Manager.

When I press "Test Connection", the result :

    [Start]

    Execute the command:

    %ccs_base%/common/uscif/dbgjtag -f %boarddatafile% -rv -o -S integrity

    [Result]

    -----[Print the board config pathname(s)]------------------------------------

    C:\Users\tama\AppData\Local\.TI\693494126\
    0\0\BrdDat\testBoard.dat

    -----[Print the reset-command software log-file]-----------------------------

This utility has selected a 560/2xx-class product.
This utility will load the program 'xds2xxu.out'.
    E_RPCENV_IO_ERROR(-6) No connection
Failed to open i/o connection (xds2xxu:0)

An error occurred while soft opening the controller.

-----[An error has occurred and this utility has aborted]--------------------

This error is generated by TI's USCIF driver or utilities.

    The value is '-250' (0xffffff06).
    The title is 'SC_ERR_ECOM_EMUNAME'.

    The explanation is:
An attempt to access the named emulator via USCIF ECOM has failed.

    [End]

When I run "dbgjtag.exe", the result  in "testBoard.dat" is :

  • Hello,

Is this issue solved?  I have similar trouble using win7, 32 bit.  Worse is my CCS5.5 refuses to run after I uninstall and re-install the drivers!

Sometimes I just want to go back to 2.x or even 1.x!

  • Hello,

We also have a 6678 EVM bought last year, and it works.  My CCS54 succeeds to connect and I can load and run my codes, at least in single steppings.

I didn't use it before as I messed up with the QSG (and the simulator is more than good enough for me), what is it for?  As someone points out, we newbies just need step by step advice on install, start CCS, connect emulator, load and run "Hello world", why should I bother to acquire an IP at the very first instance?

  • Because i was very frustrated, then I tried to install CCS5.5.0.00077_win32 to windows xp 32-bit and it works perfectly.
So, is it correct that this software, CCS5.5.0.00077_win32, doesn't support windows 7 64-bit ?
