Very slow build speed on Windows 7

We are just now changing from CCS 3.3 to CCS 5.3 due to the upcoming non-support of Windows XP. Our current project is currently building on Windows 7 and CCS 5.3 but it takes 18 minutes where it takes 4 minutes on Windows XP and CCS 3.3.

CGT is v6.1.13. BIOS is 5.41.03.17.

We are using CCS 5.3 because our local rep said that BIOS 5.41.03.17 does not work well with CCS 5.5 which was very true. But CCS 5.3 seems to work well.

We can build and have the MAP file be exactly the same for the CCS 3.3 build and the CCS 5.3 build (except for the data) the only difference is the time to build which will be a big impact on development.

  • I presume you are using the C6000 compiler.  Version 6.1.13 is almost 4 years old.  Is there any chance you could update to the latest version 7.4.6?  Details on doing that are here.  I can't guarantee this will improve things, but I think there is a good chance.

    Thanks and regards,

  • I tired CGT 7.4.1, which is the default that comes with CCS 5.3, and it took 28 minutes to build. So not good. You mention 7.4.6 but I don't think that is on your website yet so I tried 7.4.5 at it would build in 4 minutes but the size was way different, used quite a bit more memory; so also not good.

Then I sort of remembered trying doing something else long ago. Install the newest tools but then go back to the older tools. But I'm not sure if I needed to build once with the newer tools. But I went back to 6.1.13 and now it builds in 3 minutes and the map file is bit exact with the map file build with CCS 3.3 on windows XP. I recall seeing this before where installing the newer tools makes the older tools work better for some reason. I'm going to patent that idea.....

  • This morning this is still building in 3 minutes and building exactly the same as it does with CCS 3.3 and windows XP. So Installing the newer tools (v7.4.5) makes the older tools (v6.1.13) work faster for some reason.
