Definitive Windows 8/8.1 install instructions?

Is there a definitive set of Windows 8/8.1 install instructions?  I see posts about the NVIDIA drivers, pathname problems necessitating new install directories, Windows 7 compatability mode, run setup.exe as admiinistrator.  What is the status at this point with CCS 5.5?  I had planned to install a node-locked license on my Windows 8 laptop, with an NVIDIA 650 card in it, but now I am wondering If I am buying more trouble than it is worth?

I also have a Windows 7 pro desktop.  Are there problems there I should be aware of?

  • Hi LK,

    This should do the trick:

Disable firewall and then new installation to directory with short path "C:\tinew" through right click on the setup.exe file and click on "Run as Administrator".

  • Hi Lawrence,

Gautam gave some good advice.   Some of the only known lingering issues are

    - permissions (Hence run as an administrator)

    - antivirus

     - user accounts containing special characters

    - yes, we have seen customers who required compatibility mode

Aside from that I would expect things to work.  I would recommend the full offline installer.

    Please keep us informed.

  • Hi Lawrence,

just thought I would check with updates to your enuqiry.

  • Lisa:

Thanks for the continuing interest.  Unfortunately, I have yet to even attempt the Windows 8 install on my laptop while i try to get the Windows 7 installation going on my desktop.  On that machine I have 3 failed install attempts, although the last one seems to have deposited some 3.7 GB of files in the designated install directory E:\ti_ccs. . The log for that install shows that the uninstallers have been created, and I get some Blackhawk-related shortcuts on my desktop, but I never got a completion message, nor do I have either  a CCS shortcut on the desktop or even a listing in All Programs.  In analyzing this problem, are there additional locations I should be looking for install logs other than those listed under E:\ti_ccs\ccsv5\install_logs?

Also, a question regarding running the install as Administrator.  If your account already had Administrator status (mine does), is the right-click and choice necessary?

  • Hi Laurence,

the logs are located in the installjammer registry directory.   The directory may be hidden and is under program files or program files (x86).

I don't believe you should need to specifically run as admin but it wouldn't hurt.  Also, you may want to try win 7 compatibility mode.

Those are the logs that might tell us more.

  • Lisa:

I have good news to report.  I have now installed CCSv5.5 on both my Windows 7 desktop and my Windows 8 laptop.  In both cases I did run the setup as Administrator.  That was the key, apparently, in Windows 7, and I didn't bother to check if it wasn't necessary in Windows 8.   After installing the license files I was able to run the example blink-the-led code that talks to an MSP-FET430U100C,  from both machines.

    Thanks for the help.
