CCS floating licence cooldown time

Hi,

Is there a cooldown time on the CCS floating licence, and if there is, how long is it ?

I mean, I suppose there is a system of tokens on the licence server. When a user takes the token on a floating licence, what is the condition for the token to be released ? And when the condition is fullfilled, how many time shall we wait before a different user can take the token and use the licence ?

Thanks in advance for the answer.

  • Hi,

Thank you for your concern. I already read the licence server administration documentation, but it doesn't answers to my question.

I want to know, when a licence is released by a user, if there is a delay that blocks another user from using this licence. In particular I would know the length of this delay, and what is the condition for the first user to release the licence (closing CCS I suppose ?)

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Florian,

I do not believe we have maintained any statistics on this.  I would post this in the flexnet forums as they provide the license server.

Also note that the license is only required to debug.  In other words one user can have the license checked out and be debugging .... another user can be modifying code.

    Hope this helps.

    Best Regards,

  • Hi Lisa,

So, if I understand well, there is no hard-coded delay after the release of the licence.

This answers to my question. In fact, I was asking because, in my company, we witnessed a lock delay on the floating licences on another IDE. It already happened that at a moment there is one more user than the number of licences, but not all using a licence at the same time. And since the lock delay was very long, the additional user had no licence available for compiling even if he was alone complinig at this moment. He had to wait a couple of hours in order for the token to be released, which is tedious.

Of course there will be a delay due to the treatment in the server, but it depends on the network, server speed, and characteristics of the licencing software. Thus a theorical value of this delay is not very relevant. This was not the subject of my question.

Anyway, I think that your post answers my question.

    Best regards.

    Florian

  • Hi Florian,
