Default TI Compiler installation path

Hi

Why is it that TI components such as the MCSDK install to a default path of C:\TI, but the compiler installs to:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Texas Instruments

which is not discoverable by CCS?

I can, of course, change the default location but I don't see why I should have to remember that step.

Best regards

David

  • The directory C:\Program Files\vendor name is a loosely standardized place for installing software on Windows systems.  CCS used to install there, but that changed to C:\ti for reasons we compiler folks were never clear on.  Packages that were created later, such as the MCSDK, tend to follow this later CCS precedent.

Most customers get the compiler with CCS, and then upgrade it from within CCS.  In those common cases, the details of the compiler install directory are taken care of for you.  Thus, relatively few customers see the compiler installation as you have.

    Thanks and regards,

  • Hi George

We don't use the CCS upgrade mechanism because we have had problems with it.  Manual upgrades using the installers seems more reliable.

I think it would be preferable for TI to standardise on the default installation path across their products.
