Code Composer Studio and Tiva issues

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CCSTUDIO

I know this is a simple problem but I'm really stuck!

I just got the Tiva TM4C129X dev board and I had trouble getting TivaWare installed -- but it did. I also installed LM Flash Programmer, and basically all the necessary software that came on the USB stick. I had Code Composer studio already installed as I used it for both Hercules micros and MSP430.

I actually had to completely uninstall and reinstall almost all the TI software on my computer before TivaWare would successfully install. Now that it has, when I choose New --> CCS Project my only choices for Device Family are MSP430 and Generic ARM Processors. My Hercules family choices are gone too, even though I'm pretty sure I re-installed everything I needed to.

How can I resolve this? I've already gone into Help... -> Install New Software but there's nothing under the Tiva C Series Device Support listing. Also, the Hercules listing tells me that the Hercules emulation is already installed.

I feel like I'm missing something that's staring me in the face but I just can't figure it out...

Any help is much appreciated! I'm running Windows 7 x64, FX-8350, 8GB RAM, 2.5TB HDD... I also run Kubuntu x64 but I haven't installed anything TI in there yet (though I probably will at some point)

  • @Alexander

Which version of CCS Is it and what is the emulator hardware being used (XDS100, XDS200, etc)

TM129X has TIVA ICDI on board, trouble come when multiple licence / micro need coexist, I got some trouble too but now I am just using TIVA C2000 and MSP on Linux Mint (64bit),  I remember some troubles like Alexander one before leaving Ubuntu in favour of Mint, I losted MSP430 support, Linux TIVA, new freash install was fine from start, ICDI on Linux is still experimental after a very long time but it work fine.

  • Hi Alexander,

I'm going to move this to the CCS forum because they may be better equipped to help you through the installation process for multiple device families.

I remember something about licencing, your compiler is full version or board locked? If so check all licence file are in place and correctly referenced, error description sometime is of no use.

TIVAWARE require also to fine tune directory reference from project to project, header and descriptor must be on place.

IMHO, CCStudio still require some screw up from TI before to be multiplatform installation friendly.

  • Hi Roberto,

what ccs version are you using?  Have you been using the msp430 code size limted license?  These might make a difference.

One thing to note is that  v4 may not support the new devices.  Both v4 and v5 ... if you use the code size limited license, you will need a separate licence/installation for the tiva series.  However this is also a free license if you are using the xds100.

  • Hi Roberto,

just thought I'd check for any updates with your enquiry.

  •  Hi Lisa, sorry for delay, please accept my Apologizes, I was using CCS 5.5.00077 free license evaluating functionality...

After that I installed on march beta 6 00157 I got no one project to success..

Now I installed CCS 6.0GA free License as you can see from my post and I am struggling to  compile QS_weather or LWIP examples.... This moment I am running it as root to complete app center component installation. These component require root privilege if ccs was installed as root... Some patch where necessary to ask run as root on some part.

After this update finish I try compile as root to see if problem arise from permission.

When I try'd windows version I remember problem where more worst on that platform and code failed if code where spanned on more than one disk (C: D: etc as worst windows naming) I need source residing on a network disk array so it appeared as disk letter.
