License Activation Problem CCS5

Hi

For what ever reason I cannot get my activation license to work for CCS v5 (5.2.1.00018). Mac Address confirmed as the Built-in Ethernet LAN Address AC-16-2D-56-5D-B6, but I keep getting the following message

"license cannot be acquired. Your evaluation period has expired ...." when I attempt to debug.

Below is my license file. Expiry should be permanent. I can get by using the free license because at the moment I am using the 28069 Control Stick but I would like to use the activated license.

Any suggestions what to try?

Thanks  Andrew

  • Hi Andrew,

is this a node locked license and are you sure you used your eth0 address?  This is the one required.  You can run ipconig from a command prompt to verify.

Another silly thing to try is to delete your trial license.  I think we have seen old trial licenses cause issues at times.

    Best Regards,

    Lisa

  • Hi Lisa

Thanks for replying. I should perhaps give some background.

Since October 2012 I had a node locked license I received using an activation code supplied to me from Biricha Digital Power after I attended a Ti Workshop. I assume over the past year that license is what has been active in my CCS5, because I installed and activated it after I received it. So the MAC address must be correct, in any case I double checked and it is the one of the built in ethernet port and not the Wifi. I also removed any temporary licenses under the menu bar Help/License, as I knew about that when I first instaled the node locked license. What I cannot be sure of course is whether I have not been using for the past year the free license, because I exclusively use the 28069 Control Stick. In any case CCS5 has always shown at the bottom right of the window the word  "licensed".

Then a couple of days ago I installed new library files supplied by Biricha Digital Power in their update. After that installation I got the CCS5 license expired message. I am waiting on a reply from Biricha to see if anything could have happened to the licensing during the library install. Because I could not locate any license file on my computer, I assumed something must have got deleted, so I logged on to "myti.com" and saw the node locked license and thought I would just redown load it and install. So I clicked "Replacement License" and installed the email forwarded license file. It is this file (the text is in my first post) I cannot get CCS5 to accept. Since then I have noticed myti.com under "Manage Active Software" that the original node locked license file shows Subscription expired October 2013 (1 year after it was activated). But the renewed license I downloaded shows no expiry date. Also in the license file text shown in the first post the words "permanent" appear, so I am assuming it should not be expired.

I also created a temporary 90day  license in case the above node locked license really is somehow expired. CCS5 does not accept that temporary license file either so it makes me think CCS5 has gotten somehow confused. Is there a CCS5 file somewhere that keeps track of the licenses, that could could be interfering?

I had too little space on my C: drive so I run CCS from my D: drive. But I do not think that should make a difference to the licensing. In any case I tried installing the new license file under C:/ti/ as well and gave CCS5 the path, and also in D:/ti/ccsv5/ccs_base/DebugServer. Nothing seems to help.

Like I said I can use the free license, but as a matter of principle I obtained a relatively expensive node locked license as part of a workshop fee and I would like to be able to use that should I not use the control stick or other ti development kit.

    Kind Regards

    Andrew

  • Hi Andrew,

would you be able to confirm at all the license had been working?   Also verify eth0 and the change in drives did not do anything.    Ie is permissions or communication between the two a problem here.

I would also be sure to physically remove the other/old licenses.

What exact ccs version are you using?   Have you been using Help->Code Composer Studio licensing information ... and "launch license setup" in the upgrade tab to try and set/go between your licenses?

One thing to try if you are able, is removing your installation and doing a full fresh installation of v5.5 which is the latest.  Upgrading ccs has caused known issues and some older versions have had a bit of a licensing problem I believe limited to generating some of the free versions though.

    Best Regards,

    Lisa

  • Hi Andrew,

just thought I would check for any updates with your enquiry.

  • Hi Lisa

It has been a while, but no I did not get CCS5  to accept a license file, even after recently  installing 5.5 new on a completely reformatted C: drive,  due to new operating system Installation. Below is the error message. In answer to your question, I am not sure that the license file ever worked now, because I may have just been using the free license.

Will I be able to JTAG program and debug our own C2000 based board using a Spectrum Digital XDS100 Emulator using the free license option of CCS5? If so, then it is still not a problem to us.

But still it is quite frustrating that it does not seem to accept what appears to be a valid license file. The MAC address is the correct one.

    Kind Regards

    Andrew

  • Hi Andrew,

the xds100 emulator works on the free license.  If you are sure the license was generated for the eth0 address of the pc you are using CCS with, then I am not sure why the MAC address is being rejected.  We have not seen issues when the expected address is used.

    Best Regards,
    Lisa
