Which CCS to use for TI dev kit L138 processor ?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OMAP-L138

Hi All,

I am purchasing a TI development kit for the OMAP L138 processor.
The kit is:   TMDXLCDK138 - OMAP-L138 Development Kit (LCDK)

I will probably use the XDS100 TI emulator to start off with.

In past tech support email interactions, I seemed to get different stories from different individuals.
Some TI engineers said that CCS is free for 1 one person user.
Some TI engineers said that CCS will develop small sized code for free or any size code, for a single user, for $445.00

I want to develop code for all parts (ARM9, DSP) within the L138.
I may run Linux on the ARM9.

QUES 1
I am ready to purchase the L138 kit now so please tell me what I need to do to be able to use CCS to write code for this L138 kit.

QUES 2
Do you know if CCS is included in the L138 kit?

QUES 3
Is it correct to assume that a CCS install onto my Windows PC will include the C compiler/linker ?

Many thanks,
Robert

  • Hi Robert,

    I hope this helps

1 - CCS is free to use with the xds100 emulator as well as various eval kits.    There is also a code size limited msp430 license.  All other cases would eventually require a purchased license.  So as long as you stick to the xds 100, you do not need to purchase ccs.

2 - ccs is the perfect tool to write the code and includes examples etc.   Of course, compiler included as well as a full development suite.

  • Hi Robert,
