CCS Issues with TMS570LS1227

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS570LS1227

I've been working with the TMS570 Hercules Development Kit and I've been trying to get CCS v5.2.1.00018 (which comes on CD with the kit) installed on my Win7 box.  My colleague was able to get CCS installed on his machine and was able to generate and build code for the TMS570LS1227 on the dev board.

However when I try to compile the project that he was able to create, I get the following error:

Description    Resource    Path    Location    Type
File devices/tms570ls1227.xml does not exist.  Was included by file N:/infineon/radar_24ghz/jshidle/Hercules_CCS/radar_firmware/tms570/TMS570LS1227.ccxml    TMS570LS1227.ccxml    /tms570_radar    line 0    Problem
Description    Resource    Path    Location    Type
This project was created for a device-variant that is not currently recognized: Cortex R.TMS570LS1227. Please install the device-variant descriptor, or migrate the project to one of the supported device-variants by adjusting project properties.    tms570_radar        project    TI Problem Marker

Sure enough, when I traverse to $TI/ccsv5/ccs_base/common/targetdb/devices, there is no tms570ls1227.xml but this file (and other 1227 files) exist in my colleague's directories.  I suppose I could copy the required files over and make do, but I am more concerned that the installation on my machine did not complete.  I have confirmed with my colleague that we installed CCS v5.2.1 the same, making sure to include the Cortex R4F and/or ARM support.

I have attached my install log here 1122.ccs_setup_5.2.1.00018_install.log

I already have CCS v5.3 installed for MSP430 and I had previously tried to link in the new TMS570 support to that version of CCS and met with failure.  Per several posts here, I made sure to delete everything in the InstallJammer folders before proceeding with a separate install of the v5.2.1 for TMS570.

That is an ancillary issue, how to merge my MSP430 CCS with TMS570 without disrupting my existing MSP430 work which is currently critical (i.e. uninstalling the MSP430 to reinstall it + TMS570 is not ideal at this time).

Thanks in advance,

  • Joe,

Here's one thing you can opt:

Don't disrupt the CCS that you're using for MSP430, instead install the latest ccs v5.5 for hercules dk in a different folder say C:\tinew

Else, you can always use the update option to load the latest tools.

  • Hi Joe,

I think Gautams advice is quite sound.  Why not install v5.5 to a separate directory.

That is the best.  If that is not possible, I wonder whether antivirus or permissions might have blocked those files or your colleague has a newer ccs version/ran updates?

    Please keep us informed.

    Best Regards,

    Lisa

  • Thanks for the responses.

I was able to download and install CCS v5.5.0.00077 from the website into a separate directory as Gautam suggested, and I was able to see the 1227 files as expected.  Then I opted to re-run the installer and point CCS v5.5.0.00077 to "CCS Install Folder" to my existing v5.3 directory, clicked the box for "Install CCS plugins into an existing Eclipse installation" and pointed it also to my existing v5.3 eclipse.

This appears to work, as I have my MSP430 build side by side with the Hercules TMS570 build and am able to compile both projects.

I think the issue was likely with the older v5.2 that came with the Hercules installer not playing nice with the existing v5.3, while the newer v5.5 was more compatible.

    Thanks for your help,

    Joe Shidle
