Parallel Debug Manager with 2 DSP 28335 Experimenter Kits

I have a question on the parallel debug manager. I’m trying to communicate to two of the DSP 28335 experimenter kits (USB emulators) from one PC. I can’t seem to get the PDM to recognize that I have two separate emulators… it seems to take my setup (setup looks good - I also have the two emulators and boards named differently, thinking it may help) where I have two of them and just communicate to one. I tried looking up info. I couldn’t figure out how to get synchronization to say “no” versus “yes”… I have each one in a different group and that didn’t help either. I don’t see how the PDM distinguishes the two from any settings either. Wasted enough time trying to get this work, thinking I may just need to get two PCs... does anyone have experience getting this scenario to work.

I verified that it’s not communicating to two kits… by writing in memory on one and seeing the memory change on the other… so it’s only communicating to one of my kits even though I used the PDM to open up two processors from two emulators… from two code composer studio workspaces... etc...

  • David,

Unfortunately in CCSV3.3 you cannot use multiple XDS100 class emulators (that is what is on the experimentor board).  There is an FAQ on the XDS100 mediawiki site that describes how to do it with CCSv4.

Q: Can I plug more than one XDS100 (multiple XDS100) into a PC?

    • A: With CCS v4 (with the XDS100v2 SW) and above you can plug more than one XDS100 on a single PC. This is not supported with CCSv3.3.
    • Each XDS100 must have a unique serial number. Run xds100serial.exe installed under CCSv4 "<install_dir>/ccsv4/common/uscif/utility" as part of SW Patch to get the serial number of each connected XDS100 emulator. Under CCSv4 Target Configuration, the corresponding serial number must be entered before launching target configuration.
    • With older versions of CCS (ex: CCS v3.3), there is a known issue (see above) which prevents the CCS XDS100 driver from seeing more than one XDS100 in a system. If more than one is in a system, only the first one is recognized.
    • Each unit needs a unique serial number. This can be read/set through the FTDI MPROG program. That unique serial number must be put into emulator setup in CCSv4. There is a program called xds100serial.exe in the CCSv4 <install_dir>\ccsv4\common\uscif\ftdi\utility directory. This program displays the serial numbers for all the currently connected XDS100(s).

  • Thanks John, I was thinking it was probably not supported. Thanks for the link.

  • I have tried it with CCS V4.0, however it gives me "no xds100 emulators are installed in this system". I use these emulators properly when I choose one only.

Can you please explain more for the precautions and the exact procedures to connect more than onw xds100 to the same PC.

    Thanks

  • Hi Ahmed,

Can you please explain more for the precautions and the exact procedures to connect more than onw xds100 to the same PC.

Also, please post new query in a new post.

    Regards,

    Gautam
