CCS3.3 setup issue

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CCSTUDIO, OMAP3530, TMS320DM6437

After replacing my hard-drive and reinstalling CCS3.3 I'm having trouble getting it to connect to my Spectrum Digital XDS510USB probe.

The "emulator test" option in SDConfig reports successful operation, but I have not been able to come up with and combination of settings in the CCS setup that will work.

When I start the CCS setup utility I get an error message:

Error reading one or more XML files:    "sdxds510cla.xml" and "sdxds510usbcla.xml"

If I configure CCS as normal to treat my board like a DSK6713 with a Spectrum Digital XDS510USB emulator it can never connect to the probe.  The DBGJTAG and XDSPROBE hat I have a target power loss (see below).

Any ideas on how to resolve this issue?

Thanks,  Peter Steinberg

  • Hello, for me happening the same thing. Do you realized what happened to your CCS ?

  • Hi Peter,

Are you using your own custom made board or TI's EVM board?

If you are using your own custom board, then check the presence of 3.3V supply on JTAG connector.

Also, check the values of pull-ups/pull-downs/series termination resistor values on TDI,TDO and other JTAG pins.Compare them to a reference EVM board from TI.

    Regards,

    Sid

  • I'm using the same boards that have been working properly for years, and that were working properly before I had to have the hard drive in my system replaced.

I have never seen this error when the target board was powered. I'm not sure what would cause this if the target does have power.

To Dmitrij: The first error stems from the fact that you have not selected a board configuration in CCSetup. Make sure you do this before loading CCS so that it knows with which target it is attempting to communicate.

I don't have any information about the XML errors you're receiving - hopefully John or Ki can chime in here. I'll dig around a bit in any case to see if I can find some ideas for you.

  • Some preliminary suggestions:

    - Make sure you upgrade to a newer Service Release (If you are able to open CCS, select Help->Update Advisor->Check for Updates)
    - Install the latest emulation drivers from the emulator driver (Spectrum Digital's support page)
    - I would suggest a full reinstall including wiping the registry keys but I believe Peter mentioned a fresh HDD so this may not be an issue

  • CCS works fine except for talking with the emulator.

It's a fresh install, using the latest version of the emulator drivers.

The same drivers / CCS version were working before I had to reinstall everything.

For the XML file issue, Spectrum Digital told me to just delete the files in the warning box since they are no longer needed.

I also uninstalled everything, manually deleted any CCS related registry key, and reinstalled, and still get the same behavior.

It appears to be something in the CCS setup, since the Spectrum Digital utilities can communicate with the emulator properly; I just have no idea what.

    Thanks,

      Peter

  • Peter,

Thanks for the update. This is a bit out of my territory still, but I have asked a couple of the CCS guys to chime in - hopefully we will hear something from them soon.

  • Those xml files at the start are for the Control Logic Accelerator on  Piccolo B devices.  I think I got the name right.  Most 3.3 images do not actually have CLA support so it could be that the parsing of those files is failing because CCS doesn’t recognize CLA as a supported processor type.  It makes me wonder if the SD driver package is just too new for the CCS image being used.  We do have a newer CCSv3.3 image that includes the latest SR content, CLA support...  I can't post the link to the image here as it is a full product image.  However if you send an email to support@ti.com and then post the request number that you get back to this post then Tim can go in an search for the request number to get your email and send you a link with the download.  I will try to use the moderate feature of the forum to send a private message but I have never used it before.

  • Hi All,

I am facing a similar problem, though with DM6437 EVM board from TI. The hard disk on my desktop crashed, and after replacing it i am trying t install the CCS 3.3 but, it doesnt startup. It was working fine on the earlier hard disk. Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

    Pradeep.

  • I am using the beagleboard i.e, OMAP3530 based board. And we are using the XDS510USB Emulator, with 3.3v to 1.8v converter. since omap3530 needs 1.8v for JTAG. I have installed setupCCSPlatinum_v30330.exe, and the JTAG scan test is passing. When the "Setup CCStudio v3.3" is run, error is displayed. Once the Setup is open, support for OMAP3530 can be seen After adding the support for OMAP3530_XDS510USB, some error is shown, beyond this we are not able to proceed. The same problem has been discussed in this thread.  Has anyone fixed this issue? I am using CCS 3.3.38.2. Does this version support the OMAP3530 or do i need to update the Chip support package for CCS ?

  • Robin,

If you click on the image for my account and start a conversation with me I can send you a link to the latest CCSv3.3 image.  That is likely the easiest route instead of trying to intall the latest service release and chip support package.

    Regards,

    John

  • Hi,

I run into the same issue as 's. Any idea how to fix this problem?

    Thanks,

  • Kevin,

It is a pretty long thread.  Is your issue that you get this message:

Error reading one or more XML files:    "sdxds510cla.xml" and "sdxds510usbcla.xml"

    John

  • Hi John,

Yes, I'm getting the same error when I try to open Setup Code Composer Studio 3.3.

    - Error reading one or more XML files:    "sdxds510cla.xml" and "sdxds510usbcla.xml"

Then I go in Setup CCS and choose EVMDM6437_XDS510USB, and when I start CCS v3.3 I get another error:

    - Error initializing resister data: There was an error creating the flat XML file.

This is what I'm trying to install CCS v3.3 in a new computer. It works fine with the older computer.

    I have the following:

    - CCS v3.3

    - Digital Spectrum XDS510USB Emulator

    - TMS320DM6437 Video Development Platform

    - XDS510USB driver download at: http://support.spectrumdigital.com/ccs33/

  • Kevin,

Ok this is likely the same issue where the CCS image and the SD drivers are out of sync.  I will start a conversation and send you a link to a newer CCS image.

    John

  • John,

I've just downloaded the file. I am supposed to uninstall the current CCS and install the new image CCS 3.3 image file, correct?

    Thanks,

    Kevin Truong

    Panasonic Avionics Corporation

  • Yes.  And then install your Spectrum Drivers afterwards.  You might need to run the spectrum installer twice as I think it will uninstall your old drivers the first time you run it.

We don't have this problem in v4 as we bundle the spectrum and blackhawk drivers.

    John

  • hi john, this is the same error iam getting so pls send me the newer CCS image. Thanks, Vinay
  • I have the exact same problem after I installed CC3.1.0 with usb XDS510 emulator. The target system is customized board. I have followed the recommendation here to delete the both of files and it seams the problem went away.

  • Hello, I started having the same exact problem all of a sudden can you please send me the link as well.

    thx,

    Adil.O

  • Hello, I started having the same exact problem. Can you please send me the link?

  • Hello, I'm facing the same problem with my TMS320DM6437 EVM. I've installed the driver for XDS510 Plus but I can't use it with the board and CCS Setup show the same errors mentioned on other post.

Could you pls send me the link?

    Thanks

    Eugenio

  • Eugenio,

Is your CCSv3.3 image the one that came with the DM6437 EVM or did you buy a full license separately?  The reason I ask is that the image that comes with the EVM will not work with a standalone XDS510 Plus as it is a free image for use with the emulator built onto the EVM.

    Regards,

    John

  • John,

You are right, it's the image that came with the DM6437 EVM.

    Thanks

    Eugenio

  • Unfortunately in that case you need to get a full license to use the XDS510 Plus.  CCSv4 is cheaper if you want to go that route.  You can also download CCSv4 from the web and activate a 30 day eval license if you want to try it out.  It will work with both the XDS510 Plus and the onboard emulator on the EVM, the emulator drivers from Spectrum Digital are included as part of the installation.

  • hi ..

i have the same problem ..

when i open Setup CCStudio v3.3 the follwing error was apper

and when i run SdConfig v3.3 the followng error was apper

     XDS510-USB Emulator not connected/enumerated

       Could not open emulation connection

i have download the last driver .. and i was make shure that the usb cable is not defected

    please try to help me

  • Hassan,

I will send you a private message with a link to a newer image.  You will need to re-install the spectrum drivers into this new image.  Note that the first time you run the spectrum installer it may uninstall the drivers you currently have so you will need to then install a second time.

    Regards,

    John

  • thanks JohnS

my problem was solved with the new image copy which you send it to me ..

    thank you ...

  • Hi John,

I'm facing the same problem of  CCS3.3.

My boards are 5515EVM + Digital Stethoscope Front-End Module, the emulator is Spectrum Digital TMS320C5510 DSK, when I emulated the examples project with CCS4.1, it works well. But I can't build the STETHSystem project which is provided by the products, because it's a CCS3.3 project. I can edit and build the project but can't link to the emulator with CCS3.3( Peter told me they "should be able to convert it to the CCS4 project but it will take some time"), so I downloaded drivers for CCS3.3 from http://support.spectrumdigital.com/ccs33/, then I updated the driver, when I ran Setup CCStudio v3.3, it appeared:

Notes: my PC OS is windows7, and I have installed CCS2.2 , CCS4.1 and CCS3.3.

I don't know if it's  the problem of the CCS3 version, if yes, would you send me the CCS3.3 image?

    Best regards,

  • Hi John,

I am having a similar issue can I get a link as well?

Btw, after I removed those two xml file (for now) and trying to connect the target (F2812 eZdsp), the CC3.3 gives me below error:

FYI, the USB connection test using SDConfig is passed.

    liaya@vestas.com

  • hi

i have same0 problems with XML files

i have installed drivers from spectrum digital site.

    plz help me

  • John, I have CCS 3.3.38.2 (just received it in the mail last week).  I've having very similar issues with connecting to the SD xds510 USB emulator.  CCS says it can't initiliaze my ezdsp board and that the port is '540' (I would expect 510).

Is there a new image available that might properly use the SD drivers?

    Scott

  • Scott,

How did you get a 3.3 image last week?  We don't sell CCSv3.3 anymore.  If this is an image that came as part of a kit like the ezdsp then that won't work with anything other than the onboard emulation on the board.  Those images are free ones that are tied to the development board.   You will not be able to use an external XDS510.

    Regards,

    John

  • John, actually you do still sell CCS v3.3.  We paid about $450 for it..  We could not download v3.3, but a disc was sent to us (I received it a few days ago).  We are debugging some devices that were designed/made several years ago so I needed to track down the same version of CCS used back then.

I believe I may have solved my issue.   I read somewhere on this forum that somebody simply deleted a couple of .xml files.  CCS was telling me that there was an error reading a couple XML files that regarded the XDS510 USB.  I simply deleted them and I seem to be talking with my board now.  I have not yet successfully downloaded an image to our custom board, but I do not believe that is related to me deleting the 2 XML files (although I will keep it in mind and also please correct me if deleting those files was a mistake!).

    Thank you for the response.

    Scott

  • There is a C2000 version that we still sell, we really just recommend that for 24x users, however if you are trying to build an old project I can understand needing to track down older tools.  I can send you a private message with the latest 3.3 image if you want to try it.  One thing to watch is that the compiler versions changed throughout the life of 3.x so the CCSv3.3 images that you get now may have a newer compiler in them.  If you need a specific version I can help you find that as well.

I will send you a friend request and then after that we can have a private conversation thread where I can send you the latest 3.3 image.

    John

  • I am trying to use CCS3.3 on Windows 7 to debug a problem on DM648 based system.  Could I get a copy of the latest 3.3 image?

  • Hi John,

I am getting exactly the same error when trying to connect to my DM648 EVM. The CCS version is 3.3, when tried to launch CCS, it gives the same errors as mentioned by the fellow members and doesnt come up.

    Please help.

    Sachin

  • Hi John,
