Problem installing floating licenses on linux server

Hello,

I bought 5 floating licenses and because our server was down for a long time I installed the floating license server in my desktop, but now I want to move that license to a linux server (Ubuntu 12.04 64 bits).

I followed all the steps in the walkthroug http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/License_Server_Administration_for_CCS#UNIX:_command_line_setup

After running ./lmutils lmstat -a to check the status of the server I get this error:

lmutil - Copyright (c) 1989-2013 Flexera Software LLC. All Rights Reserved.
Flexible License Manager status on Fri 3/7/2014 09:30

License server status: 27000@vmredmine
    License file(s) on vmredmine: /opt/license_server/licenses/TMDSCCS-ALLF05-v5.lic:

vmredmine: license server UP (MASTER) v11.12.0

Vendor daemon status (on vmredmine):

tidspssw: The desired vendor daemon is down. (-97,121)

What could be the problem? OBS: I'm using the exact same license I received via e-mail.

  • Could it be that the port is unavailable and I need to ask the IT team to allow me to use it?

Obs: In CCS I cansee the following message:

Unable to connect to license server. Please contact your system administrator to  resolve this issue.

  • Hi Pablo,

it is hard to say with that little information.  However you mentioned moving the license server.  Did you rehost your license and get a new license file?  The license file is tied to the eth0 MAC address of your server.  If you change servers, you need a new file.

Also did you try restarting the vendor daemon?

    Best Regards,
    Lisa

  • I'll try that.

  • Rehosted my license and got this message:

lmutil - Copyright (c) 1989-2013 Flexera Software LLC. All Rights Reserved.
Flexible License Manager status on Fri 3/7/2014 15:00

    License server status: 27000@xxx

xxx: license server UP (MASTER) v11.12.0

    Vendor daemon status (on xxx):

      tidspssw: UP v11.4
    Feature usage info:

Users of CCS_CONNECTION_ALL: (Total of 5 licenses issued; Total of 0 licenses in use)

Users of CCS_DEBUGGER: (Total of 5 licenses issued; Total of 0 licenses in use)

Users of CCS_LINKER_FULL: (Total of 5 licenses issued; Total of 0 licenses in use)

Users of CCS_ISA_ALL: (Total of 5 licenses issued; Total of 0 licenses in use)

Everything seems to be working properly. But now I'm having issues with the IT team. But rehosting my license worked for me .. thank you for your help

  • Hi Pablo,

glad to hear.  Thanks for the update and all the best with development, getting the final pieces sorted.

    Best Regards,

    Lisa

  • Hello,

I still haven't been able to make the license server work.

I run tcpdump on the server and I get:

    13:50:38.429823 IP xxx.39317 > yyy.local.27000: Flags [S], seq 1750257168, win 8192, options [mss 1460,nop,nop,sackOK], length 0

This means that the client is sending the request to the server, but I don't see any sort of response from the server to the client.

This server is running in a vm and talking to the company responsible for the server, they have stated that port 27000 is open for my use (which is true according to the tcpdump). The problem is that I am still unlicensed.

I am asking for your opinion here because it is much faster and easier to get a response from you than from one of the 2 IT teams I am working with. It's giving me a headache being in charge of this.

My questions are: is the license server working properly? according to the lmstat it is up and running.

Could it be that the request isn't being attended by the license server?

Is it an IT problem? If it happens to be this (I am almost certain it is) please let me know so I can go scream at some people until I get this server working.

PS: I still get the same response when I run "./lmutils lmstat -a" that I got when I first got the license server to work

  • Hi Pablo,

I am no IT expert but there are two things I can think of to test

    - is there a copy of ccs on the server pc?  This should be able to see the server without a firewall and IT settings and help tell you the server is fine.  You can set ccs up with @localhost as the server

    - note ... the above could also lead to the second thing to test, ... is ccs being configured properly for the servers

    - also note normally 8080 is used

    Best regards,
    Lisa

  • Test it on the server. That was my forst thought, but I'll only be able to test it wednesday. IT is really picky about what we can do.

So, at this moment the only thing I can do is wait for this test? Couldn't I change the port where it is running from? I read that the only thing I'd need to do is modify the .lic file generated by texas and add the port number in the line caontaining "SERVER". Am I allowed to do that?

  • Hi Pablo,

well hopefully your testing will help by a process of elimination.

Normally the port is set in the server GUI not our license file, which you should not modify.

    Best Regards,

    LIsa

  • Is there a way to modify it via the command line?

I suggested modifying the license file, according to this website, Working with Firewalls/VPNs

  • Hi Pablo,

no, the license file is encrypted and modifications will make it invalid.   So don't modifiy.

Unfortunately it is not extrememly easy for us to do testing as we have a default internal setup.

I would refer you to the flexnet documentation regarding options.  I have myself only done this using the GUI.

    Best Regards,

    Lisa
