Can't install CCS5.4 over Eclipse

Expert 1130 points

I'm trying to install CCS5.4 over Eclipse and I get an error that the version of Eclipse needs to be between 3.8 and 4.0. Well the only version of Eclipse that i find on their website is 3.7 and 4.2 and 4.3? How do you expect me to do this? I installed Kepler 4.3.2

  • Hi MRI,

You can find 3.8 on the Eclipse archive site. For 5.4 and 5.5, I'd grab 3.8.1 (that is what those versions are based on)

    Thanks

  •  I was able to install it after all.

Did you install the CCS 5.4 components into Eclipse 4.3? I would not recommend this.

  • The link you gave me I could only find the Java Eclipse SDK. I downloaded 3.8.2 because I got the latest CCS5 v5.5. I installed eclipse in my home directory and then installed the CDT packages. I verified that I had a C/C++ Perspective.

I then installed CCS5 v5.5 over eclipse 3.8.2 and it appeared to install successfully, but I no longer have a C/C++ Perspective. I tried to reinstall CDT, but I go an error that it was already installed.

I'm not sure my installation is correct.

Note that CCSv5.5 also is built off 3.8.1. But 3.8.2 should work fine

What version of CDT did you install? I believe CCSv5.5 needs at least CDT 8.0 (comes with 8.1.1 in my install).

Note that CCSv5 hides that perspective by default in favor of the custom "CCS Edit" perspective.

Do you see it in "Window -> Open perspective -> Other..." dialog after enabling the 'Show all" checkbox?

I notice that you are installing everything from scratch. Hence may I ask why you are taking this approach of installing stock Eclipse and CDT first and then installing CCS as a plug-in?

Installing CCS as a plug-in is usually done by people who already have a mature Eclipse environment they have been working on already and do not want to install another Eclipse framework to use CCS. People who don't have Eclipse in the first place tend to (and should) install the Eclipse/CDT that comes with the CCS installer.

    Thanks
