Tools for TMS320C5x

Hi,

I've got a TMS320C5x board that I'd like to use. I don't have the disks with the original set of tools for the board. What are my options at this point? Would CCSv4 work with this device? I've already searched through the TI site/forums/Google but can find no definitive answer. Are there any linux based compilers/loaders that I could use?

Mostafa,

CCSv4 does not support the C5x devices like C50, C51... Actually no releases have CCS have. The last product that we had that supported C5x was quite a few years back. It was a Code Composer v4 (no Studio on the end) for C2x/C20x/C5x. There is some info available here: http://focus.ti.com/docs/toolsw/folders/print/codecomposer.html

If it's C55x or C54x, you can just download and use CCS v4: http://www.tiexpressdsp.com/index.php/Code_Composer_Studio_v4

You can use XDS100 as connection: http://www.tiexpressdsp.com/index.php/Xds100 and use a license as below: http://www.tiexpressdsp.com/index.php/Xds100#Q:_Can_I_use_Code_Composer_Studio_v4_with_XDS100.3F

Hi Steve,

it is indeed a C5x device as John mentioned. Do I really need to shell out $1495.08 for a copy of C3X/4X Code Composer? That's a bit much for a 15 year old board that I thought I could use for learning rather than throwing in the bin ...

Might be easiest to get the latest 5505: http://focus.ti.com/docs/toolsw/folders/print/tmdx5505ezdsp.html I think it's $49, hardware/software all included.
